Abstract:
The object of the invention is a method and an apparatus for lubricating a rope laid from wires in the manufacturing phase of the rope. By means of the invention lubricant, e.g. lubricant (5) containing solid substances such as grease, a grease compound or a paste, is spread onto at least one wire (1) of each strand of the rope to be laid. The lubricant (5) to be spread onto the wire (1) is dispensed onto the endless surface (10) moving in a different direction with respect to the direction of movement of the wire (1) and is conveyed on the aforementioned endless surface (10) into contact with the wire (1).
Abstract:
The present invention relates to additives for use in lubricant compositions to processes for producing the additives, and to the use of the additives in lubricants and in systems that are lubricated. More specifically, the additive includes a capped particle (10) comprising: (i) one or more core particles (20) wherein the core particle is an inorganic particle having a dimension less than about 5 µm; and (ii) one or more multi-block copolymers (30) attached to the inorganic particles, wherein the multi-block copolymer comprises a) at least one nonpolar polymer block (51 ); b) at least one first polar polymer block (41 ); and c) at least one second polar polymer block (42); wherein the nonpolar polymer block is interposed between the first polar polymer block and the second polar polymer block, the first polar polymer block is attached to the core particle, and at least a portion of the second polar polymer block is not attached to the core particle. When used in a lubricant to lubricate a metallic surface of a workpiece (60), the capped particle preferably adhere to the metallic surface of the workpiece.
Abstract:
Lubricant compositions as well as methods and articles utilizing the lubricant compositions that comprise a polyoxyalkene as a lubricating agent, between 4 wt.% and 7.5 wt.% of silica as a thickening agent and an inorganic thixotropic-enhancing metal compound added in an amount of, for example, at least 20 ppm, by weight or alternatively, between 1 ppm and 2 wt.%. The silica may be fumed silica. Examples of the metal compound include KOH, NaOH, KCl, CaCl 2 , MgCl 2 , CaO, MgO, Mg(OH) 2 or combinations thereof. A tire is also included, comprising a radially inner face designed to be opposite a wheel rim on which it is designed to be mounted, wherein the radially inner face is provided with the lubricant composition described above.
Abstract:
A metal treatment composition including Tin (II) Chloride and processed montmorillonite clay. The addition of Tin (II) Chloride to the composition provides Tin for forming a ceramic-metal layer on the surfaces of the friction pair. Tin (II) Chloride provides Chlorine ions for forming Chloric films for protecting juvenile surfaces which form in the friction zone. The clay is heated and pulverized to produce a powder comprising both particles having crystalline layer structure and salts and oxides. The layered crystalline structure of the clay contains slip planes that transversely shift when tangential pressure from the friction pair is applied thereby lubricating the friction pair. The salts and oxides contribute to the formation of the ceramic -metal layer.

Abstract:
An anti-seize composition which is non-flowable and dimensionally stable at temperatures greater than about 120°F and dispensable at room temperature without the application of heat is provided. The composition includes a solid anti-seize lubricant, such as of metallic copper, metallic nickel, metallic aluminum, metallic lead, metallic zinc, graphite, calcium oxide, calcium carbonate, calcium fluoride, calcium stearate, lithium, molybdenum disulfide, boron nitride, barium sulfate, or combinations thereof. The anti-seize lubricant is dispersed in a carrier which is a solid at about room temperature. The carrier includes a grease with an ASTM D 217 penetration at 25°C from about 200 to about 400 mm, a matrix material, and a naphthenic petroleum oil having a viscosity of less than about 300 SUS at 100°F and having an API gravity at 60°F from about 23 to about 25. The matrix material is a polymeric material. Optionally, a refined petroleum wax may also be included.

Abstract:
A two- or a one-step process and composition which coats metal workpiece surfaces (aluminum, copper, steel, stainless steel, etc.) with a thin lubricant film capable of allowing the metal to be deformed at room temperature. The lubricant consists essentially of polymers, dispersants, high molecular weight waxes and insoluble metallic stearates. With some ferrous surfaces, a separate coating layer is simultaneously formed (in the one-step process) or pre-formed (in the two-step process) at the metal interface, acting as a base for the lubricant. The process, after pickling in a mineral acid to remove scale and oxides, comprises the step(s) of immersing the workpiece either once or twice. The workpiece is then dried in a heated, forced air dryer.
