Abstract:
A process for drawing wire employing a lubricant comprising perfluorocarbon compounds (PFCs), including aliphatic perfluorocarbon compounds ( alpha -PFCs) having the general formula CnF2n+2, perfluoromorpholines having the general formula CnF2n+1ON, perfluoroamines (PFAs) and highly fluorinated amines (HFAs), and perfluoroethers (PFEs). Such fully and highly fluorinated carbon compounds exhibit a very high degree of thermal and chemical stability due to the strength of the carbon-fluorine bond. Further, because the compounds are fully fluorinated, and therefore do not contain chlorine and bromine, they have zero ozone depletion potential (ODP). Further, because the compounds are photochemically non-reactive in the atmosphere, they are not precursors to photochemical smog and are exempt from the United States Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) volatile organic compound (VOC) definition. Further, because they are volatile, the compounds are easily removed at the end of the process without need for an additional cleaning step. The process provides wire at significantly higher production speeds and longer die life with improved quality and less byproduct debris.

Thin impermeable, surface hardened, corrosion-resistant, durable, dry lubricant surface finishes are provided as well as surface finished products and methods for the production thereof. The surface finishes comprise particulate mixtures of sulfur containing metallic compounds and fluorocarbon polymers and are applied to surfaces of substrates such as metallic surfaces.
Abstract:
A surface-coated rubber or plastic sliding member having a coating with excellent durability and high slipperiness, wherein the coating comprises a solid lubricant such as molybdenum disulfide, a resin matrix and a reinforcement, said resin matrix comprising a fluoroolefin vinyl ether polymer resin and/or a fluoroolefin vinyl ether/vinyl ester copolymer resin.
Abstract:
In one aspect the invention is a carrier-free pulverulent metalworking lubricant containing a resin having a highly polar functional group, and in another aspect is a method of the invention of forging a workpiece in a die which includes the step of applying to at least one of the die and the workpiece a coating of an effective amount of the carrier-free pulverulent lubricant composition. The use of the composition and method of the invention significantly reduces smoke and oily waste generation in hot forging operations by eliminating the use of oils or volatile organic compounds as carriers, while providing acceptable performance, cleanability, and sprayability.
Abstract:
There is provided a galvanized steel sheet with high press formability, which has an inorganic compound on a metallic galvanized layer thereof. The galvanized steel sheet according to the present invention is manufactured by bringing the plating surface of the galvanized steel sheet into contact with a water solution containing 0.1 wt% or more of a borate of alkaline metal, and then drying the steel sheet by heating within a temperature range of 60 to 400°C. The friction coefficient of the galvanized steel sheet of the invention is 80% or less of the friction coefficient obtained without the existence of the inorganic compound on the metallic galvanized layer and the amount of insoluble slimes of the inorganic compound left after water washing or alkali degreasing is less than 1 mg/m².
