A cylinder for a piston-cylinder assembly comprises an extruded stainless steel cylinder body and stainless steel end caps mounted to opposite ends of the body. A unique configuration of three seals is used to seal each end cap to the cylinder body.

There is provided a cylinder injection type internal combustion engine capable of performing stratified charge operation at the time of a vehicle speed of 120 km/h and/or an engine rotational speed of 3200 rpm to enhance the fuel efficiency and/or to observe the emission regulations. In the internal combustion engine, a stratum of air and/or air flow is formed between a fuel spray injected from an injection valve and the top face of a piston and/or the wall surface of a combustion chamber, and a face shape contrived to guide the air flow is formed on the top face of the piston. Also, the stratified charge operation can be performed even at the time of cold start or cranking.

A direct fuel injected engine includes an improved construction for preventing a fuel injector from holding considerable heat therein. A cylinder head of the engine has a cavity opened to a combustion chamber. A fuel injector is placed within the cavity and is arranged to directly spray fuel into the combustion chamber. At least one heat insulator is disposed between the cylinder head and the fuel injector to insulate the fuel injector, at least in part, generally from the cylinder head.

The invention relates to a micro-machined fluid-flow device (10) comprising a substrate (12) possessing a flow duct (14), a deformable thin layer (18) such a pump membrane or a valve-forming membrane. According to the invention, the thin layer (18) is a rolled metal sheet, preferably made of titanium, and connected to the substrate (12) in the zone (20) overlapping the flow duct, by an anodic bonding. The invention is applicable to making a valve.

The cylinder head for a twin V-twin motorcycle engine contains an intake port entrance lies in a plane oriented at an angle of less than ninety degrees to another plane defined by the center lines to the intake and exhaust valve guides and the entrance is characterized by a rectangular shape that is tilted from the horizontal plane of the head so that one of the three corners to the rectangular shape is lower in vertical position than the other three. The floor, the lower side between the two lower most corners, is oriented perpendicular to the intake valve guide.

Greater torque and power are realized in V-twin motorcycle engine with a cylinder head having a combustion chamber that incorporates two flow relief areas, one for each of the intake and exhaust ports, located on opposite right and left sides of the combustion chamber, and flow resist areas about the remaining portions of the respective port's periphery, obstructing gas flow into the flow resist areas. The foregoing arrangement defines a gas reversion path from the exhaust port that zig-zags through the chamber to the intake port, increasing the length of the path and reducing the adverse effect of reversion. A rectangular shaped intake port entrance and an accompanying rectangular shaped manifold passage provide for input of greater volume of combustible gas and a D-shaped exhaust port exit contribute to the effectiveness of the combination.
