Abstract:
In one embodiment, the invention is spectrophotometer with a light emitting diode illuminator. In one embodiment, a spectrophotometer for characterizing a reflectance spectrum of a specimen includes an optical assembly for illuminating the specimen, where the optical assembly includes at least one light emitting diode. A measurement head is coupled to the optical assembly for collecting light reflected by the specimen, and a spectrum analyzer is coupled to the measurement head for performing spectral analysis of the collected light into a plurality of spectral bands. A reference channel provides illumination from the optical assembly to the spectrum analyzer, while a test channel provides the collected light from the measurement head to the spectrum analyzer.

Abstract:
The present invention provides a colour recipe calculation method for matt finished, solid colour shades, by means of which it is possible to determine the proportion of matting agents in a colour recipe in a manner decoupled from the actual calculation of the recipe and is based on a conventional spectrophotometric characterization of a matt sample using a standardised 45°/0° measurement geometry along with an established gloss measurement, or alternatively using a spectrophotometer equipped with a d/8° measurement geometry and analyzing readings taken with the specular component included and excluded.

Abstract:
A collector (202) captures light from source images as a field of pixels, a color analyzer (292) analyzes a proper subset (420) of the field to produce a plurality of color values, and a cosmetic analyzer then uses the color values to produce a cosmetic color determination. Another aspect of the present invention comprises a window having a light passage area, a color calibration region that is not coextensive with the light passage area, and a detectable product identification region. The window may also contain a mechanism that tends to preclude multiple uses. A third aspect of the present invention is a system that combines the collector, the color analyzer, the cosmetic analyzer, and window.
Abstract:
A method for determining the appearance of an object to be replicated and an apparatus therefor are described herein. The method consists in providing a controlled illumination to illuminate a surface of the object, measuring the object with a CCD camera to collect an image map of a plurality of points on the surface and processing that information to produce an appearance mapping of the object. Calibration of the apparatus is done by measuring calibration patches illuminated with the same illumination. When the apparatus is done in view of replicating the color of an object, a comparison can be done by similarly producing an appearance mapping of the replicate and by comparing it to the appearance mapping of the object.
Abstract:
A spectrophotometer 10 providing a sample measurement area of selectable size includes a sphere 18 defining a sample station 42, a lamp 50 to illuminate the interior of the sphere 18 and therefore the sample station 42, a color measurement engine 20 including an aperture directed toward the sample station 42, and a measurement area size selector 22. The size selector 22 includes a movable plate defining two or more holes 24,26 of different sizes. The plate 22 can be moved so that only one of the holes 24,26 is aligned with the aperture to control the size of the measurement area sampled by the color measurement engine 20.
