Abstract: A thermal water purification system and a related method including distilling units consecutively flowed through by raw feed liquid, each having a boiling liquid section and a vapor section, and including a heat exchanger cavity adapted to transfer thermal energy to the raw feed liquid before entering the boiling liquid section of a first distilling unit. Heat exchanger tubes in fluidic communication with the heat exchanger cavity extend through the boiling liquid section of the first distilling unit to transfer thermal energy from a medium in the tubes to cause the raw feed liquid to boil. Preheating tubes extend through the vapor section of each distilling unit to heat the raw feed liquid before entering the boiling sections using thermal energy from vapor condensing against external surfaces of the preheating tubes, which produces the distillate liquid that flows through a discharge port and a conduit supplying a storage tank.

Abstract: A method of analyzing molecules, comprising: generating ions from a sample of molecules; cooling the generated ions below ambient temperature; fragmenting at least some of the cooled ions by irradiating the ions with light at a plurality of different wavelengths (λ) within one or more predetermined spectral intervals; recording a fragment mass spectrum of the fragmented ions comprising a detected signal (I) versus m/z over a predetermined range of m/z values for each of the plurality of different wavelengths (λ), thereby recording a two-dimensional dependency of the detected signal (I) on m/z and irradiation wavelength (λ); and determining from the recorded two-dimensional dependency an identity of at least one of the generated ions and/or relative abundances of different generated ions and thereby determining an identity of at least of one of the molecules and/or relative abundances of different molecules in the sample.

Abstract: The invention relates to devices, systems and methods exploiting capacitive means for monitoring and analysing teeth-related parameters in a subject, such as the dental occlusion profile and/or the load/force applied upon clenching. The device comprises a body such as a bite fork or bite splint, capacitive sensor(s) incorporated within a soft substrate reversibly deformable once bitten by a subject and a micro-controller unit. The teeth contact points and forces applied upon occlusion are measured via the sensors, delivered to and re-elaborated by the micro-controller unit and possibly sent and visualized in a graphical/numerical fashion on e.g. a display screen.

Abstract: The invention relates to titanium oxide aerogels, in particular to titanium oxide binary or ternary (e.g. titanium oxide-carbon) aerogel monoliths possessing ordered meso- and macroporosity. The porous scaffold can be made with or without addition of binders and/or surfactants. The aerogel obtained by this method has a specific surface area greater than 60 m2/g and porosity larger than 60%. The surface area ranges from 60 to 300 m2/g. The porosity can reach as high as 99.6%. The size of the titanium oxide crystals are between 5 nm and 100 nm. The aerogel contains 100% titanium oxide. The composite (binary or ternary) aerogel can be prepared by adding at least 10% carbon in the form of (carbon nanotubes, carbon nanofibers, carbon microfibers, exfoliated graphene, cellulose fibers, polymer fibers, metallic and metal oxide nano and microfibers etc.). The aerogel can be prepared with a predeterminable shape. It can be shaped in a mold having a shape of a cylinder, cube, sheet or sphere. The aerogel can be also transformed into a supported or self-standing film with a thickness. The material can be used as a self-cleaning filter e.g. in a solar-thermal water and air purification system, in mesoscopic solar cells e.g. dye sensitized solar cells, multifunctional filler in polymer composites, in ceramics, in metals, thermoelectric material to convert (waste) heat into electricity, heat insulation material and electrode material in lithium ion batteries and supercapacitors.
