A flame retardant blend, suitable for incorporation into a polyurethane foam, comprises: an oligomeric organophosphourus flame retardant, preferably an organophosphate, having a phosphorus content of no less than about 10%; a benzofuran-2-one stabilizer; and a monomeric phosphate ester containing alkyl and/or haloalkyl groups to act as a solubilizing addtive for the oligomeric organophosphorus flame retardant and benzofuran-2-one stabilizer.

Organic polymeric substrates, for example polyolefins such as polypropylene, can be made flame retardant by the incorporation of a synergistic mixture of (i) at least one low molecular weight sterically hindered alkoxyamine stabilizer, (ii) at least one high molecular weight sterically hindered alkoxyamine stabilizer and (iii) at least one conventional flame retardant selected from the group consisting of the organohalogen, phosphorus containing and melamine based flame retardants. The compositions of the invention combine good flame retardant properties with light stability and good mechanical properties. Polyolefin molded articles are stabilized against light, heat and oxygen and made flame retardant with the incorporation of at least one sterically hindered alkoxyamine and at least one conventional flame retardant, while allowing normally high levels of flame-retardant fillers to be greatly reduced or eliminated.

Flame retardant flexible polyurethane foam compositions, methods of flame retarding flexible polyurethane foam compositions, articles made therefrom and flame retardants that comprise blends of (alkyl substituted) triaryl phosphate ester and phosphorus-containing flame retardant having at least about 5 wt. % phosphorus additives. The combined weight of the (alkyl substituted) triaryl phosphate ester and the phosphorus-containing flame retardant comprises about 5 to about 40% by weight of the flexible polyurethane foam compositions or reaction mixtures. The ratio of the (alkyl substituted) triaryl phosphate ester to the phosphorus-containing flame retardant is from about 95:5 to about 50:50 percent by weight.

Disclosed is an electrically conductive composite including (A) electrically conductive fibers, (B) fibrous or rod-shaped low-melting metal which has a melting point lower than that of component (A) and is free of lead, and (C) a thermoplastic resin, the electrically conductive composite including a composite fiber bundle containing component (A) and component (B), the composite fiber bundle being covered with component (C), wherein in the electrically conductive composite, the ratios of the weights of components (A), (B) and (C) to the combined weight of components (A), (B) and (C) are 50-95% by weight for component (A), 4-40% by weight for component (B) and 1-20% by weight for component (C), wherein in the electrically conductive composite, the weight ratio of component (B) to component (A) is 0.31-0.8, and wherein in the composite fiber bundle, component (B) is enclosed in a bundle of component (A).
