Abstract:
An improved lubricating oil composition comprising a major amount by weight of oil of lubricating viscosity; a minor amount by weight of solid particles effective to improve the lubricating properties of the composition; and a minor amount of a nitrogen containing mixed ester of a carboxy containing interpolymer. This composition provides improved inhibition of sludge and varnish formation in use.
Abstract:
A machining fluid includes a basic component in the form of an aqueous solution and an aliphatic acid organic compound which is produced by a fermentation process comprising cultivating a microorganism in a culture medium containing a saccharide, nitrogen source and an inorganic salt and accumulated in a culture broth and separated and recovered from the culture broth.
Abstract:
Band-ply lubricant concentrates are disclosed which are useful in the preparation of both solvent and water based formulations. Unexpected advantages of greater formulation latitude and product stability have been found. The concentrates consist of (A) an alkylene oxide polymer, (B) unique siloxane copolymer dispersing agents, (C) a polydimethylsiloxane fluid, and in some instances (D) mica or talc.
Abstract:
A mixture containing a major proportion of amine phosphate salts and a minor proportion of phosphoramides is prepared by reacting a triaryl phosphate and an aliphatic amine in the presence of a catalytic amount of a trialkyl borate. Certain of these mixtures are useful as additives for lubricating oils.
Abstract:
Method and composition for applying a coating to a metallic surface, the surface being immersed in an acidic aqueous coating composition comprising dispersed solid particles of an organic polymeric resinous coating-forming material and an oxidizing agent, wherein the weight or thickness of the coating formed on the surface is a function of the time the surface is immersed in the composition.
Abstract:
Polyurea-based greases containing as an extreme-pressure additive an alkali metal triborate introduced or produced in the grease in aqueous solution.
Abstract:
Novel Benzimidazo [2,1-a]benz[de] isoquinoline-7-one mono-urea compounds having the structure formula: ##STR1## wherein R is a hydrocarbyl radical of 16-22 carbon atoms, are excellent thickening agents for grease compositions employed in high temperature applications.
Abstract:
A metallic surface is coated with a polymeric resinous coating by immersing the surface in an acidic aqueous coating composition comprising polymeric resinous coating-forming material and an oxidizing agent. The corrosion resistance and/or the surface appearance of the resinous coating is modified by rinsing the coating with an aqueous rinse solution containing hexavalent chromium or an aqueous rinse solution containing hexavalent chromium and reduced forms of chromium.
Abstract:
Discrete pressure-rupturable microcapsules for lubrication in powder metallurgy are disclosed comprising a core and a solid shell surrounding said core; the core comprises an organic liquid lubricant able to wet powdered metals, the shell comprises a thin non-atmospherically degradable polymeric material; the microcapsules may be used as the sole lubricant in the manufacture of sintered metal parts or may be used in admixture with other solid lubricants to produce beneficial synergistic effects.
Abstract:
Novel bisphosphoramides having the formula: ##EQU1## R is a alkylene having from 2 to 18 carbon atoms; R.sub.1 is a vegetable oil fatty hydrocarbyl radical; and R.sub.2 is alkyl of 2 to 8 carbons.
