Abstract:
An antiwear additive has an alkali metal borate; and a thiadiazole compound. That thiadiazole compound may be a 2,5-dimercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, a 2-alkylpolythio-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, or a 2-alkylestermercapto-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole. If the thiadiazole compound is a 2-alkylpolythio-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole or a 2-alkylestermercapto-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, the alkyl group has from one to twenty carbon atoms. If the thiadiazole compound is a 2-alkylpolythio-5-mercapto-1,3,4-thiadiazole, the polythio group has from two to eight sulfur atoms. This antiwear additive can be used with a base grease in a grease composition.
Abstract:

R 1 -O-(CH 2 CH 2 O) n -R 2 (I)
wherein R 1 represents a hydrogen atom, an alkyl group having 1 to 6 carbon atoms or a phenyl group; R 2 represents a hydrogen atom or an acetyl group; and n represents an integer of 1 to 4; (B) 0.1 to 5.0% by weight of at least one selected from the group consisting of organic bentonite and inorganic bentonite; (C) 0.01 to 5.0% by weight of at least one selected from the group consisting of carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC), MgO, methanol, and ethanol; (D) 0.1 to 2.0% by weight of at least one selected from the group consisting of a sodium β-naphthalenesulfonate-formalin condensate and a sodium, potassium, lithium or amine salt of petroleum or synthetic sulfonic acid; and (E) 10 to 70% by weight of water, each based on the total composition weight.
Abstract:
The invention provides composites of organic polymeric compositions including a matrix of an organic polymer and a filler distributed throughout the matrix, the filler being present in the matrix substantially as separate particles, each about the fundamental particle size of the filler. The fillers are unique mixed metal hydroxide compositions that are obtainable in sub-micron size particles. These particles are layered and have a BET specific surface area in excess of about 100 m2/g. An anion of the particulates is selected to be compatible with the organic polymer thereby providing ease of dispersion of the filler particles throughout the polymer matrix.
Abstract:
A grease composition for use as a cable filling material which contains about 75 to 95 parts by weight of a base component of a liquid or semi-solid polyol having a molecular weight of at least 4000 and a reduced amount of mono-unsaturated compounds, about 1 to 15 parts by weight of a thickening agent such as colloidal particles of silica, and between 1 and 5 parts by weight of an antioxidant. Optionally, a thermoplastic elastomer can be added to improve bleed resistance.
Abstract:
The title lubricant composition comprises a base oil or base grease and a specified amount of a heat insulating agent comprising (A) an inorganic compound undergoing endothermic melting at temperatures of 1200 DEG C or below and (B) an inorganic powder which neither melts nor decomposes at temperatures of 1200 DEG C or below and which has a thermal conductivity of 0.01 cal/cm.s. DEG C or less and a friction coefficient of 0.7 or less at room temperature added alone or as a combination. This lubricant composition has an excellent heat-insulating effect and is effective in preventing occurrence of thermal crown of working rolls.
Abstract:
Hindered phenolic/phosphorodithioate-derived alcohol borates have been found to be effective multifunctional antioxidant/antiwear additives for lubricants and fuel.
Abstract:
An organophilic clay thickener for natural oil systems comprising the reaction product of a smectite-type clay and an organic cation in an amount of from about 75% to about 150% of the cation exchange capacity of the smectite-type clay. Said organophilic clay comprising at least one naturally occurring, resulting in increased efficiency as a thickener in natural oil systems.
Abstract:
This invention relates to a composition comprising a major amount of an oil of lubricating viscosity, and (A) an organic ammonium thiosulfate. The lubricating composition is either free of added lead containing compounds or additionally contains (B) a phosphorus or boron antiwear/extreme pressure agent, or both. The invention also includes greases and aqueous fluids containing organic ammonium thiosulfates. These compositions have improved antiwear, antiweld, extreme pressure and/or friction properties.
Abstract:
