Abstract:
The invention provides a polyurethaneurea composition comprising poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycol having from about 37 to about 70 mole percent ethyleneether content and ethylene diamine as the extender. The invention further relates to the use of high ethyleneether content poly(tetramethylene-co- ethyleneether) glycol as the soft segment base material in spandex compositions. The invention also relates to new polyurethane compositions comprising poly(tetramethylene-co-ethyleneether) glycols with such high ethyleneether content, and their use in spandex.
Abstract:
The invention provides a polyester bicomponent core spun yarn comprising a sheath of at least one hard fiber and having an English cotton count of from about 5 to about 60 and a core of bicomponent polyester filament. The invention further includes a fabric substantially free of grin-through of the bicomponent polyester filament.
Abstract:
A stretchable fabric comprising NYCO fabric with about 2 to about 4 wt.% elastic, such as an elastane as LYCRA®, is disclosed. The stretchable fabric of the invention exhibits about 20 to about 50 % fabric stretch, and is suitable for application in combat uniforms where mobility and comfort are desirable. The stretchable fabric maintains or exceeds substantially all military uniform standard requirements and exhibits characteristics such as breaking strength, tear resistance, air permeability and abrasion resistance similar to that of NYCO fabric. Also disclosed is a garment manufactured from the stretchable fabric, as well as methods for manufacturing, dying and finishing the stretchable fabric.
Abstract:
A copolymer with recurring constituent units derived by polymerizing tetrahydrofuran, ethylene oxide and at least one additional cyclic ether that can be substituted or unsubstituted that decreases the hydrophilicity imparted to the copolymer by the ethylene oxide.
Abstract:
A method for reducing the concentration of cyclohexenone in a cyclohexenone-containing organic mixture is disclosed. The method includes contacting an organic mixture comprising cyclohexenone with an effective amount of at least one of sulfurous acid, a salt of sulfurous acid, an alkali hydroxide, or a mixture of two or more of these compounds.
Abstract:
The present invention relates to an adjustable air shield (18) for skewed godet rolls (12, 14). The air shield (18) can be any blocking type plate with or without perforations. Furthermore, these air shields (18) may be placed in close proximity to the pair of skewed, relax rolls (12, 14) in the relax zone of a fiber producing process. The plates (18) are positioned on the inside of the threadline (16) so that the airflow is substantially reduced around the threadline (16) on the skewed rolls. The preferred embodiment of the present invention is one or more skewed godet rolls (12, 14) in the relax area of the fiber production process with air shields (18) positioned on the inside of the fiber string up (threadline) (16) between the pair of skewed rolls (12, 14), such that the gap between any roll (12, 14) and any air shield (18) is uniform and constant.
Abstract:
The invention provides polyurethane containing a) a first additive comprising at least one mono-hindered hydroxyphenyl group and having a molecular weight of at least about 300 Daltons; b) a second additive selected from the group consisting of i) condensation polymers of p-cresol and divinyl benzene and ii) compounds comprising at least one unsymmetrically di-hindered hydroxyphenyl group and having a molecular weight of at least about 300 Daltons; and c) an inorganic chlorine-resist additive. The polyurethane of the invention exhibits improved resistance to degradation by chlorine and by atmospheric fumes.
Abstract:
Adhesion of an adhesive to a substrate can be improved by incorporating into the substrate an adhesion-enhancing amount of an adhesion promoter.
Abstract:
A synthetic polymer filament is characterized by a four-sided void that extends centrally and axially through the filament. Each apex of the void extends toward the approximate midpoint of one side of the exterior configuration of the filament. The four-sided void has a modification ratio in the range from about l.2 to about 2.0 and occupies from about five percent 5% to about thirty percent 30% of the cross sectional area of the filament. A spinneret plate for producing the thermoplastic synthetic polymer filament has a cluster of four orifices centered about a central point. Each orifice includes a generally isosceles triangle-shaped major portion from which extends a pair of legs, each leg of one orifice being spaced from the leg of an adjacent orifice to define a gap therebetween.
