    Abstract: PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cyclopentanone compound which can broaden the width of light absorbing organic compounds to be selected in preparing a photopolymerization composition and the like by providing a new organic compound absorbing visible rays having a broad wavelength region. SOLUTION: The method for producing the cyclopentanone compound represented by chemical formula 1 is provided. This cyclopentanone compound has an absorption maximum in the visible region of wavelengths longer than a wavelength of 500 nm and moreover, in addition to a large molecular extinction coefficient at the absorption maximum, has a broad half width of the molecular extinction coefficient centering on the absorption maximum wavelength, and consequently efficiently absorbs visible rays near 500 nm which are frequently used in the photochemical polymerization and the like.
