Abstract:
Apparatus (10) for agitating a cleaning agent into a carpet comprises a housing (16) within which a first and a second roller (76f, 76r) are each mounted for rotation in a first angular direction. A platen (112) is mounted intermediate the rollers (76f, 76r). A belt agitator (134) comprising a fabric substrate (134f) having a pile surface (134p) is trained about the first and second rollers (76f, 76r) and extends under the platen (112). The rollers (76f,76r) and the platen (112) support rectilinear movement of the belt agitator (134) in the first direction (138) to bring a portion (140s) of its surface sequentially from a first position (140a) within the housing (16) to a contacting position (140b) in which the portion of the surface is in agitating contact with a carpet and, thereafter, to a second position (140c) within the housing (16).
Abstract:
A winder for elastomeric fibers, which can reciprocate the fiber (1) during winding and provides a substantially constant distance (8) of fiber travel between the point where the fiber leaves the puller roll (2) and the point where the fiber first contacts the contact roll (7), is provided.
Abstract:
This invention concerns a process for the addition of volatile materials like catalysts, stabilizers, plasticizers or comonomers to to prepolymers of e.g. polyesters, polyamides or polycarbonates prior to or during solid state polymerization processes and the subsequent conducting of said solid state polymerization process. In one embodiment a catalyst like toluene sulfonic acid is introduced into the inert gas stream during solid state polymerization of a polyester like polyethylene terephthalate. Alternatively the prepolymer pellets are contacted with a solution of the volatile material before solid state polymerization.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for modifying polyamide polymers by attaching a modifying group to the amide nitrogen atoms and the modified product formed. The process comprises contacting a modifier with a diamine then reacting the resulting modified diamine with diacid to form the modified polyamide.
Abstract:
Disclosed is a method for the hydrogenation of tetrahydroxybutane in the presence of supported rhenium catalysts and an acid to form tetrahydrofuran and unsaturated precursors thereof.
Abstract:
The present invention concerns a process a process for making polyester containing up to 50 percent by weight transparent recycled waste polyester by a novel equilibrium depolymerization process. The equilibrium depolymerization process of the present invention for making polyester containing transparent waste polyester comprises the steps of providing a stream containing oligomers, feeding transparent polyester waste to an extruder, melting in said extruder said waste polyester, extruding said molten polyester into said stream containing oligomers, completing the esterification creating a prepolymer mixture, and polymerizing said prepolymer mixture thereby producing polyester containing waste transparent polyester suitable for food grade applications. The present invention meets or exceeds the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) requirements for food contact with polyester and is thus useful in food contact applications, for example beverage containers and polyester film wrap.
Abstract:
This invention concerns a method for increasing the polymerization rate of polyester polymers in the solid state by adding a catalytic amount of zinc p-toluenesulfonate to a polyester polymer melt that is essentially free of antimony and germanium, before solid state polymerization.
