Abstract:
The title compositions impart fire retardancy to and are not readily leached from various cellulosic substrates. For example, wood treated with a composition comprising a phosphate salt of poly(2-ethyl-2-oxazoline) and a 40:60 mixture of mono- and diammonium phosphate is not only rendered fire retardant but the phosphates exhibit good resistance to leaching.
Abstract:
Melamine phosphate having hydrogen bonded thereto from about 0.5 to about 1.5 moles of phosphoric acid per mole of melamine phosphate, particleboard containing said melamine phosphate material and processes for the production thereof, are disclosed.
Abstract:
Disclosed herein is a method for preparing fire retardant styrenic polymer molding compositions with improved impact strength which compositions contain a metal oxide and a halogenated fire retardant additive. The method comprises dispersing the metal oxide into a minor portion of the styrene polymer component using high intensity mixing and temperatures at or above the fusion temperature of the styrene polymer in order to obtain a uniform dispersion. The metal oxide-polystyrene dispersion is then blended with the other ingredients of the polyblend. The resulting blend is compounded at temperatures greater than 255.degree. C. and then comminuted to form a molding composition.
Abstract:
Plastic compositions containing a three component system consisting of (1) epoxy resin polymer, (2) certain bis-phenoxy compounds having the formula: ##STR1## WHEREIN Z in bromine, m and m' are each integers having a value of 1-5 with the proviso that the total bromine atom content is from 6 to 10, and "T" is a straight or branched chain carbon group having 1 to 4 carbon atoms, and (3) an enhancing agent, hereinafter defined.

Abstract:
Self-extinguishing, thermoplastic polymer compositions are prepared by the intimate admixture of a thermoplastic polymer with a copolymer of a halogen containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer and a phosphorus containing vinyl monomer, particularly a bis(hydrocarbyl)vinylphosphonate. The thus modified thermoplastic polymers display a high degree of flame retardance without any substantial changes in their physical properties including, for example, their clarity and hardness and the resulting compositions may be safely employed in any application requiring their possible exposure to fire or high temperatures.
