Abstract:
The invention relates to a method for color matching a reference color formulation to a defined color shade standard, comprising the steps: 1. Measuring a reflectance spectrum R ST of the color shade standard, 2. Identifying a recipe for the color shade standard from a database containing color recipes and the corresponding measured reflection spectra R PT , 3. Calculating the theoretical reflectance spectrum R RPT for the identified recipe, 4. Calculating the difference spectrum ΔR between the measured reflectance spectrum R PT and the calculated reflectance spectrum R RPT obtained in step 3, 5. Adjusting the reflectance spectrum R ST of the color shade standard with the difference spectrum ΔR obtained in step 4 and creating a modified reflectance spectrum R STM of the color shade standard, 6. Calculating a recipe on basis of the modified reflectance spectrum R STM and 7. Mixing a paint according to the recipe calculated in step 6 and applying the paint to a substrate.Γ
Abstract:
This invention provides an improved method for evaluating the quality of images using a test Skr-matrix system. The index k refers to the fractal level in an Skr-matrix, having matrices themselves as elements. The index r = k refers to the Kronecker sub-level to which a typical internal sum structure is present. Skr-matrices can be explained in terms of cognition numbers, basic components, eigenvalues and sine-like eigenvectors. Skr-matrices also form vector spaces in which matrix distances can be properly calculated. The image Skr-quality parameters are derived from an intermediate quasi-Skr-matrix and its best-Skr-appoximation in relation to a theoretical reference Skr-matrix. Useful applications are in the field of analogue and digital cameras, scanners, vision sensors, monitors, printers, spectrophotometers, infrared cameras, copying machines, TV-screens, GPS screens, X-rays, Gamma rays, Laser rays, or every other component in the image production and image handling field.
Abstract:
A distributed color selection and coordination system including a remote computer communicatively coupled to a server. The remote computer configured to select a starting color and access a database in the server to find one or more complementary colors. The colors in the database arranged in a predetermined relationship with other colors in the database, the relationship between colors based on color theory. The remote computer being capable of storing personal information and color selections on the server. An in-store kiosk is communicatively coupled to the server and configured to execute color selection and coordination software. The in-store kiosk being capable of retrieving stored personal information and color selections from the server which was previously stored from the remote computer.
Abstract:
A method for determining the optimal colorant thicknesses for integral CIE color-matching filters is provided. According to a computational study, a four band filter of the present invention provides a best approximation to the CIE XYZ color-matching functions with the least cost.
Abstract:
A general purpose computer system is used to run a color selection application which operates to facilitate the selection of colors and the automatic generation of palettes of harmonious colors. The application is implemented in three pages, a color selection page, a results manager page, and a color composition page. The color selection page is used to select a plurality of colors that the results manager page can operate on to generate palettes of harmoniously related colors. The color composition page is used to experiment with the colors selected and palettes generated in order to arrive at a pleasing arrangement of colors. The results manager page contains functions and palette characteristics that an artist can specify in order to automatically generate palettes that contain groups of colors that have very specific contrast relationships to previously selected colors.
Abstract:
The present invention provides a plurality of representations of color that are stored in an electronic color library and that can be selected by a user. After a color selection is made, a plurality of color ink formulas and/or colorant formulas capable of producing the selected color are provided. Further, other selections can be made to define a substrate or other criteria that can impact the color ink formulas. A plurality of color ink and/or colorant formulas are provided and optimized in order to reduce or eliminate undesired effects caused by metamerism. The formulas can be transmitted over a communication network, such as the Internet or a local intranet to another party, such as color products manufacturers.

Abstract:
The present method invention provides a portable method useful for identifying the effect pigments used in developing a color matched formula for a vehicle repair paint. The method comprises observation of effect pigment properties of the coating of a vehicle to be matched, in a field location with a portable magnification apparatus, and comparison of the effect pigment properties with reference sample(s) properties of available effect pigments, thus enabling precise selection of effect pigment(s). The method may also utilize features derived from images of physical reference samples of available effect pigments, for comparison purposes. Further, the method may, in a field or centralized laboratory location, utilize a comparison of the effect pigment properties of images of the vehicle coating to be matched, or features derived from images thereof, with images of reference samples of available effect pigments, or features derived from images thereof, thus enabling precise selection the effect pigment or pigments to use in the development of said color matched formula.
