Abstract:
A remote controllable device, apparatus or appliance such as a television is adapted to receive control signals from a universal remote control device addressed to a different appliance, i.e., when said appliance has not been selected, and informs the user that said appliance is not selected. Preferably the appliance displays information as to which other appliance has been selected, for example the TV could display on its screen the fact that it is receiving a remote control signal pertaining to a VCR by saying "VCR selected" when it receives a VCR control signal.
Abstract:
An apparatus, such as a database or a processor/memory combination of a remote control system, for supplying for example infrared codes defining functions for remotely controlling devices wherein code-sets include function-code-combinations for each one of two/more different functions. By distinguishing main-functions such as power on/off and sub-functions such as channel up/down and volume up/down, code-sets may be allocated to a group of code-sets for a target device in case a code of a function-code-combination for the main-function is valid for the target device. This increases an efficiency of the apparatus. The group of code-sets may form a tree, whereby the main-function and its code(s) form root of the tree, whereby a sub-function forms a branch of the tree and a code or cedes defining this sub-function form a leaf or leaves of the branch. The group of code-sets may be defined for device-types and/or device-brands.
Abstract:
An IR signaling generator and method divides the functionality of generation between software and hardware to provide a flexible way to generate IR signals, such as remote control signals. The hardware includes a clock generator for generating a carrier clock signal and a data clock signal, a buffer memory that is loaded with instructions representing an encoded data sequence; a control circuit, and a transmitter including a modulator. Each instruction contains an on/off value that is to be modulated with the data clock signal and a pulse duration value that indicates how long the on/off value is to modulate the clock signal. Using the data clock signal, the control circuit measures the amount of time the on/off value modulates the clock signal and causes the buffer to advance to the next instruction in the sequence when the measured amount of time is equal to the pulse duration value.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To easily and intuitively use a device for controlling many home automation elements. SOLUTION: The method for operating a home automation system provided with a controller for controlling a home automation equipment item and comprising a display and control screen the part of which is assigned to the display of a first graphic representation associated with the equipment item and separate from a specific control means includes a step for setting at least one value of a parameter of the home automation equipment item involved in a scenario definition, the setting step executed by both action on the specific control means so as to cause a phase for modifying the state of the home automation equipment item and action on the controller so as to cause a phase for modifying the appearance of the first graphic representation of the home automation equipment item. Abstract:
A hand-held electronic device (1150) having a remote control application user interface that functions to display operational mode information to a user. The graphical user interface may be used, for example, to adjust the behavior of the readable media to more closely match the region in which it is operated, to setup the remote control application to control appliances for one or more users in one or more rooms, to perform activities, and to access favourites. The remote control application is also adapted to be upgradeable. Furthermore, the remote control application provides for the sharing of operational mode information.
