Abstract: A speed independent system is used for obtaining a preselected number of samples from an object moving along a fixed path, such as a railroad train passing through a sensing zone along the section of track. The sensing zone is defined by a pair of wheel sensors. Upstream of the sensing zone a third sensor is positioned. The distance between the third sensor and the closer of the pair of sensors comprises a reference distance which is the length of the sensing zone multiplied by a known multiple. The time for the train to pass through the reference distance is obtained and then divided by a divisor comprising the product of the known multiple and the desired number of samples to obtain a single interval. During the time the train passes through the sensing zone consecutive intervals are counted off to obtain the desired number of samples.

Abstract: An automated direction finder system for providing verbal bearing information for aircraft is disclosed. The system extracts data regarding the bearing of an aircraft from the radio transmission requesting the bearing and then utilizes the extracted data to control the gating between a storage drum having recorded therein a full range of possible bearings and an amplifier which amplifies the appropriate bearing of the aircraft and transmits the same back to the aircraft.

Abstract: A two-level alarm monitor for use with a hot box detector system of the type having first and second sensors each associated with a rail of a track is provided. The monitor includes means connected to the outputs of the sensors for obtaining the difference between the output signals of the sensors and for comparing the difference alternately to first and second predetermined levels which may, for example, represent "warm" and "hot" differential alarm levels or differential alarm levels for friction and roller bearings. The outputs of the sensors are also alternately compared with third and fourth predetermined levels which could, for example, represent "warm" and "hot" absolute alarm levels or absolute alarm levels for friction or roller bearings. The output signals from the comparators are demultiplexed and utilized to generate an alarm signal in the event differential signals or absolute alarm signals exceed associated predetermined levels.

Abstract: 1376426 Overheated wheel detector SERVO CORP OF AMERICA 8 May 1973 [22 June 1972] 21911/73 Heading B7N In a trackside detector arrangement for detecting overheated train wheels produced, e.g. by dragging brakes, a radiation detector is disposed in a scanner 12 which is sighted to receive radiation from a zone on each passing wheel 16 defined by the top of the track 14 and a line parallel to the track and running through the bottom of the brake 18. Preferably the wheel is scanned 3" above the track level. The scanner is also disposed at an angle of 65 degrees to the line of the track so that both near wheels 16a, 16b and far wheels 16c, 16d can be scanned from one side of the track. When level alarm 34 detects an output from amplifier 30 above a set level, latch 40 is operated to gate wheel counter pulses from units 36, 38 to telemetry equipment from which they are transmitted to a control station. From the total received count the overheated wheel position is determined.
