    Abstract: Compressed sensing can be mapped to a more general set of problems in computer graphics and computer imaging. Representation of a rendered scene in the formulation y = A^x produces higher-quality rendering with less samples than previous approaches.     Abstract: A plasmonic detector is described which can resonantly enhance the performance of infrared detectors. More specifically, the disclosure is directed to enhancing the quantum efficiency of semiconductor infrared detectors by increasing coupling to the incident radiation field as a result of resonant coupling to surface plasma waves supported by the metal/semiconductor interface, without impacting the dark current of the device, resulting in an improved detectivity over the surface plasma wave spectral bandwidth.

    Abstract: An intubating stylet has a proximal end and a distal end. The intubating stylet includes a housing at the proximal end of the stylet and a tip portion at the distal end of the stylet. The tip portion has a distal gear at its proximal end. An outer shaft extends from the housing to the tip portion and contains an inner shaft defining a hollow lumen. A distal end of the inner shaft includes a proximal gear coupled with the distal gear of the tip portion such that rotation of the inner shaft causes articulation of the tip portion. The stylet further includes a drive member in the housing and a control member coupled with the drive member. The drive member is coupled to the inner shaft and configured to rotate the inner shaft, and the control member is configured to receive a user input and to translate the input into operation of the drive member.

    Abstract: A method of treatment and/or prevention of cancer comprises administering agents which cause increased intracellular granularity in cancer cells, at least in an amount sufficient to inhibit proliferation of such cells and preferably in an amount sufficient to lead to cancer cell death. The method is particularly directed to refractory cancer, particularly hormone refractory prostate cancer. The agents identified cause increased intracellular granularity in the cancer cells, and also convert adherent cancer cells to non-adherent cancer cells, leading to cancer cell death. Using the present invention, cancer cells undergo increased intracellular granularity at relatively low agent concentrations, while also inhibiting cell proliferation. Increased concentrations lead to conversion of adherent cancer cells to non-adherent cancer cells, then to cell death. While the exact mechanism of cancer cell degradation and death is not completely understood, the treated cancer cells, including refractory prostate cancer cells, give indications of cell death through an autophagic mechanism. Pharmaceutical compositions related to the presently disclosed methods are also disclosed.

    Abstract: In accordance with the invention, there are electrocaloric devices, pyroelectric devices and methods of forming them. A device which can be a pyroelectric energy generator or an electrocaloric cooling device, can include a first reservoir at a first temperature and a second reservoir at a second temperature, wherein the second temperature is higher than the first temperature. The device can also include a plurality of liquid crystal thermal switches disposed between the first reservoir and the second reservoir and one or more active layers disposed between the first reservoir and the second reservoir, such that each of the one or more active layers is sandwiched between two liquid crystal thermal switches. The device can further include one or more power supplies to apply voltage to the plurality of liquid crystal thermal switches and the one or more the active layers.
