Abstract:
The present invention relates to a styrene-butadiene latex, a preparation method thereof and a coating liquid containing the same, more precisely a styrene-butadiene latex binder for ink-jet paper containing ethylenically unsaturated monomer by 0.1-1.5 weight parts with lowering surface negative charge density, a preparation method thereof and a coating liquid containing the same. The present invention provides a coating liquid for ink-jet paper having excellent price competitiveness and coating work-ability and at the same time reducing energy cost for drying process and thereby provides an ink-jet paper with excellent printing quality.
Abstract:
The present invention relates generally to radiation-curable ink formulations, and particularly, but not by way of limitation, to a family of radiation-curable ink formulations specifically for lithographic printing applications. The inventive ink formulations are based on multifunctional acrylate resins formed by the reaction of acrylate monomers and oligomers with β-keto esters (e.g., acetoacetates), β-diketones (e.g., 2,4-pentanedione), β-keto amides (e.g., acetoacetanilide, acetoacetamide), and/or other β-dicarbonyl compounds that can participate in Michael addition reactions.
Abstract:
A polymer emulsion with good film forming property, which is mixed a synthetic polymer emulsion containing the polymer having the particle size of 0.15 &mgr;m or longer in diameter and a synthetic polymer emulsion containing the polymer having particle size of 0.10 &mgr;m or shorter in diameter, wherein the glass transition temperature of the latter polymer is at least 20 degree lower than that of the former emulsion and the particle size ratio between the former polymer and the latter polymer is 2 or more. The polymer emulsion is used for making moisture-proof coated paper and/or recyclable-coated paper.
Abstract:
A coating composition is prepared containing a polymer emulsion which comprises a first polymer network which is intertwined on a molecular scale with a second polymer network.
Abstract:
Emulsions of ethylene homopolymer and/or copolymers are provided which are remarkably clear and have a light transmission of at least about 95%, and contain particles which have an average size no greater than about 100 angstrom units. These emulsions are produced by polymerizing ethylene, or ethylene with at least one other alpha unsaturated monomer in aqueous medium in the presence of an effective amount of a water soluble persulfate initiator, from about 2 to about 5 percent by weight based on the aqueous medium of an alkyl aryl sulfonate surfactant, and from about 0.3 to about 0.7 percent by weight based on the aqueous medium of an alkyl mercaptan. The resulting clear emulsions are combined with clear polish latexes such as acrylic latexes to form clear polish compositions.

Abstract:
A containment coating for glass containers. The composition includes a principal film-forming constituent comprising an acrylate latex containing a particulate resin comprising a copolymer of acrylonitrile and ethyl acrylate. The coating also contains at least one additional latex whose presence enhances the containment properties of the film after curing. Two such auxiliary latexes exhibit this capability and the coating composition contains either or both of them. One of these is a vinyl latex whose resin solids comprise a copolymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate. The other is a vinyl/acrylic latex whose resin solids comprise a copolymer of vinyl acetate and a lower alkyl acrylate. Hexamethoxymethylmelamine or a methylated urea-formaldehyde resin is included as a cross-linking agent and either polyacrylamide or a high molecular weight water-soluble polyethylene oxide resin is present as a thickener and a thixotrope. A method of producing a novel coated glass container of improved mechanical service strength is also disclosed.
Abstract:
