PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a diamond base composition convenient to use for the immobilization of a bio-molecule and arbitrary succeeding analysis. SOLUTION: The diamond base composition contains (1) a diamond crystallite having a chemically derivatized surface group and (2) a polymer having a functional group and is characterized in that a part of the functional group is bonded to the chemically derivatized surface group by a non-covalent bond. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for evaluating and treating impediment to fat metabolism concerning to occurrence of abnormality of G s α gene. SOLUTION: The method is applied to evaluate whether a testee has proceeding impediment or risk therefor in fat metabolism. The method comprises preparing a sample from the testee and evaluating G s α manifesting level in the sample. If the G s α manifesting level in the sample is different from that of a normal testee, the subject testee is in proceeding impediment or has risk therefor. PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide: an immunogenic composition capable of high levels of immune responses immune-targeting glycolipid antigen Globo H, which is a tumor associated sugar chain; a cancer vaccine; and a method of treating cancer.SOLUTION: The invention relates to an immunogenic composition comprising: (a) a sugar chain such as Globo H or an immunogenic fragment thereof conjugated with a carrier protein comprising diphtheria toxin cross-reacting material 197 (DT-CRM 197) through a linker such as p-nitrophenol; and (b) an adjuvant with the following structure comprising a glycolipid capable of binding CD1d on a dendritic cell such as an α-galactosyl ceramide derivative.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new system and method for performing charge monitoring mass spectrometry of specimen biological particles.SOLUTION: The method comprises the steps of: a) evaporating and ionizing specimen biological particles by laser desorption to generate a pressure control discharge while forming specimen biological particle ions; b) determining a ratio of the mass to the charge of the specimen biological particle ions in a mass spectrometer; and c) measuring the charge of the specimen biological particle ions using a charge detector. The system is used for rapid mass distribution measurement and used for distinguishing a cancer cell from a normal cell when the mass distribution of the cancer cell is different from that of the normal cell.

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for quickly producing a monosaccharide rich syrup from starch-containing produce. SOLUTION: The method includes treating starch-containing produce slurry with a first starch hydrolyzing enzyme that hydrolyzes starch to oligosaccharide and a second starch hydrolyzing enzyme that hydrolyzes starch or oligosaccharide to glucose. The starch-containing produce can be further treated with an enzyme that converts glucose to other monosaccharides, or treated with a microorganism that converts glucose to a fermentation product.
