Abstract:
Articles comprising garments with at least one opening layers are included. The articles may include an elastic polymer composition such as a film, a melt or an aqueous dispersion.
Abstract:
Included are multiend packages of multicomponent yarns, where the yarn is separable into individual ends upon unwinding. The multicomponent yarn may be a bicomponent yarn, such as a yarn including compositionally different polyesters in a side-by-side or eccentric sheath-core configuration. Uses of such multiend packages are also included.
Abstract:
A method of minimising or preventing catalyst loss and/or the precipitation of metal oxide in a process for the production of an aromatic carboxylic acid, said process comprising contacting in the presence of a catalyst comprising a metal salt within a reactor, one or more precursors of the aromatic carboxylic acid with an oxidant, such contact being effected with said precursor(s) and the oxidant in an aqueous solvent comprising water under supercritical conditions or near supercritical conditions, wherein (i)said method comprises the step of adding an acidic component comprising one or more acid(s) into the oxidation reaction zone; (ii) contact of at least part of said catalyst with said oxidant is in the presence of said acidic component; and (iii) said acidic component comprises one or more organic acid(s).
Abstract:
Disclosed is a process for spinning a polyamide filament, and providing yarns, comprising the steps of : providing- polyamide polymer to a melt extruder; providing a triamino compound capable of branching the polyamide polymer; charging said triamino compound to said melt extruder at an injection point selected to provide sufficient contact time for said triamino compound and said polyamide polymer to form a melt polymer,- melting said polyamide polymer; and extruding the melt polymer to form a branched polyamide polymer filament. Polyamide yarns formed from modified nylon 66 polymer have a formic acid relative viscosity (RV) of 40 to 55, an elongation at break of 60% to 100%, being a triamino compound content of 0.01 to 0.10 weight per cent, being provided by the process additionally comprising a draw ratio of less than about 2.0.
Abstract:
The invention provides spandex having an initial CIE whiteness of at least about 95 as measured by AATCC Test Method 110-1994, the spandex comprising an optical brightener selected from the group consisting of an oxazole, a biphenyl, a coumarin, a stilbene, a pyrazolene, a rhodamine, and a fluorescein, or a combination of such members, and an ultraviolet screener selected from the group consisting of a triazine, a benzotriazole, an oxalanilide, a benzophenone, and a bismalonate, or a combination of such members.
Abstract:
The invention relates to a stain and soil repellent composition for a carpet, especially from polyamide, wherein a first condensation product of hydroxyaromatic compounds and formaldehyde, which is free of sulphonic acid- and carboxyl- groups; and a second condensation product of hydroxyaromatic compounds and formaldehyde, which is at least partially sulphonated is applied to the carpet in a foam application process together with a fluorocarbon compound.
Abstract:
A treated garment, especially white socks, treated with a soil release composition and a process for treating the garment are disclosed. A majority of polyester yarns from profiled cross section high moisture wicking capacity filaments are disclosed in a garment and sock construction which optionally includes other polyester yarns, polyamide yarns, cotton yarns and spandex. The garments so constructed and treated are rendered resistant to soil re-depositing after repeated wearing and washing cycles.
Abstract:
A castliner in the form of a three-dimensionally knitted sleeve comprises a microdenier yarn, and/or a spandex yarn, in particular, a spandex yarn having a flatter stress-strain curve than traditional spandex yarns. The use of the microdenier yarn contributes to the superior cushioning effect. The stretch and recovery properties of the particular spandex yarn contribute to superior fit and reduction of pressure points on the limb or body part to which the castliner is applied. Furthermore, the castliner is rendered water resistant and has significantly improved antimicrobial properties, both of which reduce incidents of skin irritation and unpleasant smell. As a result, the patient wearing the castliner of the invention is able to bathe and get wet without otherwise replacing the hard casting and castliner after such events.
Abstract:
This invention relates to toluate ester compositions and their use as solvent, plasticizers, extender and/or diluents in binder formulations, a method of producing such ester compositions, as well as polymer compositions containing such liquid ester compositions. The method of making toluate based esters by reacting methyl-p-toluate with ethylene glycol, diethylene or triethylene glycol, butanediol, etc. More particularly, this invention relates to the mono-or di-ester of methyl toluic acid with a diol containing 2 to 6 carbon atoms that are low viscosity liquids at 25° C. The most common polymer that employs plasticizer is polyvinyl chloride (PVC). Typical amounts of plasticizer in PVC are from about 3 wt. % to about 50 wt. %. Phenolic resins generally require solvents, diluents and/or extenders that reduce the volatility and viscosity of the resin, especially when it is used in building and automotive products. Typical amounts of solvent are from about 5 wt. % to about 65 wt. %.
