    Abstract: A METHOD IS DESCRIBED FOR RECOVERING OLEFINS BY CONDENSATION FROM THE REACTION EFFLUENT STREAM FROM A CRACKING FURNACE CONTAINING OLEFINS AND HYDROGEN WHEREIN A MEMBRANE SEPARATOR IS EMPLOYED TO REJECT THE HYDROGEN FROM THE REACTION EFFLUENT STREAM. IN SUCH A MANNER, THE DEW POINT TEMPERATURE OF THE STREAM CAN BE INCREASED AND THE ENERGY REQUIRED TO PROVIDE REFRIGERATION FOR OLEFIN CONDENSATION CAN BE REDUCED. THE METHOD COMPRISES PRIMARY CONDENSATION, VAPOR-LIQUID SEPARATION AND MEMBRANE HYDROGEN REJECTION STEPS FOLLOWED BY A SERIES OF CASCADED CHILLING AND VAPOR-LIQUID SEPARATION STEPS. CONDENSATE RECOVERED IS PROCESSED IN A DEMETHANIZER TO SEPARATE LIGHT END COMPONENTS. ALSO DISCLOSED IS AN OLEFINS PLANT EMPLOYING A MEMBRANE SEPARATOR FOR REJECTING HYDROGEN TO ENHANCE THE ENERGY EFFICIENCY AND/OR FACILITATE THE EXPANSION OF PLANT CAPACITY..(FIG. 2)

    Abstract: A CLOSURE DEVICE FOR A LOWER OPENING OF A COKE DRUM PRESSURE VESSEL IS QUICK ACTING. THE OPENING HAS AN ANNULAR FLANGE. AN ANNULAR MOVABLE SUPPORT ENCIRCLES THE PRESSURE VESSEL ABOVE THE FLANGE. A STATIONARY SUPPORT SECURES TO THE FLANGE BELOW THE MOVABLE SUPPORT. A NUMBER OF COIL SPRINGS ARE EVENLY SPACED AROUND THE STATIONARY SUPPORT BETWEEN THE STATIONARY SUPPORT AND THE MOVABLE SUPPORT. HYDRAULIC CYLINDERS BETWEEN THE MOVABLE AND STATIONARY SUPPORT MOVE THE MOVABLE SUPPORT AXIALLY RELATIVE TO THE STATIONARY SUPPORT. A HEAD WILL ABUT THE FLANGE. HOOKS MOUNTED TO THE MOVABLE SUPPORT WILL ENGAGE THE HEAD AND PULL THE HEAD TIGHTLY UPWARD INTO ENGAGEMENT WITH THE FLANGE WHEN THE RETRACTING CYLINDERS ARE RELEASED. PIVOTAL CYLINDERS WILL PIVOT THE HOOKS BETWEEN ENGAGED AND DISENGAGED POSITIONS. THE BIAS OF THE SPRINGS IS INDEPENDENTLY ADJUSTABLE.(FIG. 1)

    Abstract: 903,897. Reducing metallic oxides. KELLOGG CO., M. W. Sept. 22, 1960 [Oct. 5,1959], No. 32568/60. Classes 72 and 82 (1). A method of reducing granular metallic oxides comprises introducing into a molten metal bath a reducing agent and injecting the granular metallic oxide into the molten metal whereby the oxide is reduced and the molten metal formed is removed. As shown, applied to the reduction of oxidic iron ore, a bath 12 of pig iron is formed and oxide ore mixed with a liquid, solid, or gaseous, carbonaceous reducing agent and slag forming materials is introduced below the metal surface through a lance 11. Air from a regenerator 15 is fed to the same end of the furnace, part of this air being used to burn oil from a burner 18 and the remainder to burn carbon monoxide produced by the reaction between the reducing agent and the ore. When the air is changed over to the other end of the furnace, the ore and other additions are injected through a lance 26. Metal is removed from the furnace through an opening 23 and slag through an opening 24. When the reducing agent does not produce large quantities of gas, e.g. coke, it may be added at the centre of the furnace only. Chromium and manganese oxides may be reduced to metal by the process.
