    Abstract: An optical pickup apparatus for at least two kinds of optical information recording media, comprises a first light source; a second light source; an optical converging system; and a photo detector. An optical element of the optical converging system comprises a first region including an optical axis and a second region adjoining the first region and locating at the outside of the first region, the first region is a refractive surface and the second region is a diffractive surface. When a first light flux passes through the second region, the light amount of n-th order diffracted ray of the first light flux is larger than that of any other order diffracted ray of the first light flux, and when a second light flux passes through the second region of the optical element, the light amount of n-th order diffracted ray of the second light flux is larger than that of any other order diffracted ray of the second light flux, where n is an integer except 0.

    Abstract: A diffractive optical element, comprises a first diffractive structure to generate n 11 -th order diffracted ray when a first light flux having lambda1 (nm) of a wavelength comes in and to generate n 21 -th order diffracted ray (n 11 .>=n 21 ) when a second light flux having lambda2 (nm) (lambda2>lambda1) comes in; and a second diffractive structure to generate n 12 -th order diffracted ray when the first light flux comes in and to generate n 22 -th order diffracted ray (n 12 .>=n 22 ) when the second light comes in. The diffractive optical element satisfies the following formula: deltaphi A12 <>deltaphi B12 , where deltaphi A12 ={n 11 .lambda 1 /(N 11 -1)}/{n 21 .lambda 2 /(N 21 -1)}, and deltaphi B12 ={n 12 .lambda 1 /(N 12 -1)}/{n 22 .lambda 2 /(N 22 -1)}, wherein N 11 , N 21 are refractive index of the first diffractive structure respectively for lambda 1 and lambda 2 , and N 12 , N 22 are refractive index of the second diffractive structure respectively for lambda 1 and lambda 2 .
