Motor traveling using only an output of a rotating electrical machine utilizing power of a vehicle-mounted power storage device is applicable to an electrically-powered vehicle, within a region inside a maximum output line in motor traveling. The maximum output line is composed of straight line portions defining an upper limit torque and an upper limit vehicle speed and a curved line portion defining upper limit output power, in motor traveling. When an output power upper limit value from the power storage device is limited due to an increase in a current load or a reduction in the SOC of the power storage device, a driving region to which motor traveling is applicable is narrowed. Operation in a high rotation region, where efficiency is reduced, is avoided by changing the upper limit vehicle speed in motor traveling in response to the SOC and/or the current load of the power storage device.

A data processing device for playing back a digital work reduces the processing load involved in verification by using only a predetermined number of encrypted units selected randomly from multiple encrypted units constituting encrypted contents recorded on a DVD. In addition, the data processing device improves the accuracy of detecting unauthorized contents by randomly selecting a predetermined number of encrypted units every time the verification is performed.

Vehicle includes an engine, a first rotating electric machine and a control device controlling the rotational speed of the first rotating electric machine such that the rotational speed of the engine matches a target rotational speed. The control device calculates a torque command value of the first rotating electric machine based on an upper limit value of electric power discharged from a power storage device supplying electric power to the first rotating electric machine. The control device calculates the torque command of the first rotating electric machine based on a further restricted value of the upper limit value when a torque restricting condition including simultaneous operation of an accelerator pedal and brake pedal is met.

A power supply system includes a main power storage device and a plurality of sub power storage devices. A converter is connected to a selected one of the sub power storage devices to convert voltage between the selected sub power storage device and an electric power feeding line bidirectionally. The sub power storage device undergoes a connection switching process, and when the last sub power storage device is currently used, then, in accordance with that sub power storage device's SOC and the vehicle's state, a request is generated to disconnect the sub power storage device and a relay is turned off. In doing so, if a process is currently performed for starting or stopping an engine, generating the request is refrained even if a decreased SOC is sensed. Similarly, if a process is performed to disconnect a sub power storage device, and therewhile a request is generated to start/stop the engine, starting the process performed for starting or stopping the engine is refrained.

A plug-in hybrid vehicle includes: an internal combustion engine outputting driving power; an electric motor outputting driving power; an electrical storage device storing electric power; and a controller. The controller is configured to learn an electric power consumption rate by calculating the electric power consumption rate when the vehicle has traveled on the electric power stored in the electrical storage device using only the electric motor as a driving force source and to control travel of the vehicle using at least one of the internal combustion engine and the electric motor as the driving force source. The controller is configured to, when a driving frequency of the internal combustion engine that is driven as the vehicle travels on at least one of an uphill and a downhill is higher than a predetermined frequency, invalidate the calculated electric power consumption rate or information acquired to calculate the electric power consumption rate.

At the time of an engine start while the vehicle is driving, when a required vehicle driving force (TRQ) is smaller than or equal to a predetermined value (TRQth), an electronic control unit (20) estimates that the degree of deformation of a mount (11) is smaller than or equal to a predetermined degree and sets a second-cycle fuel injection amount (Q2) so as to be larger than a first-cycle fuel injection amount (Q1) at the time of the engine start. On the other hand, when the required vehicle driving force (TRQ) is larger than the predetermined value (TRQth), the electronic control unit (20) estimates that the degree of deformation of the mount (11) is larger than the predetermined degree and sets the first-cycle fuel injection amount (Q1) so as to be larger than the second-cycle fuel injection amount (Q2) at the time of the engine start.

The SOC of a power storage device provided in an electrically powered vehicle is controlled not to fall out of a SOC control range. When a SOC estimate value reaches a control lower limit value during vehicle traveling, a power generating structure provided in the vehicle starts to charge the power storage device. In the case of low temperature and/or deterioration of the power storage device, i.e., in the case where decrease of performance of the power storage device is concerned, the control lower limit value is increased as compared with that in a normal state. As a result, decrease of driveability and decrease of startability of an engine in the hybrid vehicle, both otherwise caused by insufficient output electric power from the power storage device, can be avoided.

A monitoring unit outputs a first current detection value having a relatively wide measurement range and a relatively short detection cycle and a second current detection value having a relatively high resolution, to a charging ECU. When charging power calculated using the first current detection value exceeds a predetermined limit value, the charging ECU controls a charger to reduce charging power (protection control). Further, the charging ECU controls the charger such that a power storage device attains a predetermined fully charged state based on charging power calculated using the second current detection value (full charge control).

An ECU uses a map or the like prepared in advance to calculate a discharge allowable power. Then, the ECU sets a VH upper limit value at the first upper limit value. When the running mode is not at a CD mode (that is, at a CS mode), or when the engine is operating, the ECU proceeds to S60. In contrast, when the running mode is at the CD mode and the engine is stopped, the ECU increases the discharge allowable power, and modifies the VH upper limit value to a second upper limit value that is lower than the first upper limit value.

Therefore, if a vehicle speed exceeds the upper limit vehicle speed in motor traveling in each of the EV mode and the HV mode, an engine is started. A motor traveling upper limit vehicle speed in the EV mode is set to be lower than a motor traveling upper limit vehicle speed in the HV mode.
