Abstract:
An emergency call placement method (300) used in user equipment in idle mode camped on a first cell of a wireless communication network having a first radio access technology includes the steps of requesting (316) a radio resource control connection using "emergency call" as an establishment request, changing (340, 350) to a new cell in a different location area or routing area than the first cell, and requesting again (316) a radio resource control connection using "emergency call" as an establishment request. This method avoids performing a location area update or a routing area update when the user equipment changes to a new cell during an emergency call and thus may speed up placement of the emergency call by several seconds.
Abstract:
A system, method, and apparatus for establishing headroom for a mobile station operating in a wireless communication system by determining (230) a communication channel variance condition and establishing (245) a headroom value based on the communication channel variance condition. The headroom value may be further revised by determining (260) if a battery condition in a mobile station relates to a low battery level and increasing (265) the headroom value in order to decrease the maximum data rate. Modifications to headroom allow data rates to be tailored to specific channel variance conditions and battery conditions.
Abstract:
A method in an amplifier, for example, a power amplifier in a wireless transmitter, including monitoring (310) a characteristic of the amplifier during a first active interval of the first set of active intervals, storing (320) the amplifier characteristic monitored during the first active interval of the first set of active intervals, correcting (340) an open-loop control signal to the amplifier based on the stored amplifier characteristic monitored during the first active interval of the first set of active intervals, and providing (350) the corrected control signal during a second active interval of the set of first active intervals subsequent to the first active interval of the set of first active intervals.
Abstract:
A method (200, 400) and an apparatus (500) in a wireless communication system for communicating contents of a broadcast message are provided. A wireless portable communication device (104) receives an emergency status indicator associated with the broadcast message from a base station (102). Upon determining the broadcast message is an emergency message, the contents of the broadcast message are immediately communicated.
Abstract:
A method for a communication device to search for service from an alternate public land mobile network when a public land mobile network rejects a registration message from the communication device includes a first step of having the device roam to a visited public land mobile network (PLMN). A next step includes sending a registration message to the PLMN. A next step includes rejecting the registration message by the PLMN. This rejection can include ignoring the registration or sending an error message back to the device. A next step then includes searching for service from an alternate public land mobile network.
Abstract:
A method for rate selection by a communication device for enhanced uplink during soft handoff in a wireless communication system includes a first step of receiving information from a scheduler. This information can include one or more of scheduling, a rate limit, a power margin limit, and a persistence. A next step includes determining a data rate for an enhanced uplink during soft handoff using the information. A next step includes transmitting to a serving base station on an enhanced uplink channel at the data rate determined from the determining step.
Abstract:
A MC-CDMA handset has a receiver (30) that estimates SIR based on a spread factor of a pilot channel. More particularly, a spread spectrum signal including a pilot channel and multiple data channels is received. The pilot channel is despread using a spread factor (SF). The SIR for the despread pilot channel is calculated and stored in a memory (34). The SF is then incremented and used to despread the pilot channel again, and this process is repeated for all of SF. The stored SIRs are compared to a threshold value in ascending order of the SFs. The first SIR value to fall below the threshold value is used as the estimated SIR result.
Abstract:
The invention provides for a closeable radio communications device (1) comprising a housing (21) having at two portions (22,23) pivotally mounted to each other to allow relative movement of the portions between a closed position and an opened position. There is a user interface (5b, 5c) accessible by a user when the housing (21) is in the closed position. There is a transceiver (8) disposed in the housing (21) and a speaker (5d) and a microphone (5e) are audibly accessible when the housing is in the closed position. A processor (3) is disposed in the housing (21) and coupled to the user interface (5b, 5c). In use, when the housing (21) is in the closed position a user can initiate an outgoing communication call through the transceiver (8) by selecting one or more functions selectable at the user interface (5b, 5c). During the communication call the speaker (5d) and microphone (5e) are operable when the housing (21) is in the closed position.
Abstract:
A third party or third party device 110, 116 makes an access request to a wireless communication device 100. The wireless communication device 100 generates a token specifying an identity for use by the device when making a connection request. The wireless communication device 100 also specifies a right wherein the right is for access to a capability of the wireless communication device 100. When a connection request is received the token for identity verification is checked and access is allowed according to the rights specified if the identity is verified. Access via the user interface 208 is also granted in the same fashion. A wireless communication device 100 arranged for implementing this method is also described.
Abstract:
The invention provides for a closeable radio communication device (1) and method (40) for initiating an outward outgoing communication call. The device (1) includes a housing (21) having at least two portions (22,23) movably mounted to each other to allow relative movement of the portions between a closed position and an opened position. The method (40) comprises receiving (42) an outgoing communication call destination number selected at a user interface (5a) of the device (1). Thereafter a step of detecting (45) provides for detecting when the housing (21) is moved from the closed position to provide an outgoing call request signal thereby initiating an outgoing communication call, through a transceiver (8) of the device, the outgoing communication call being directed by the call destination number.
