Abstract:
A system for determining a recommended magnification factor and/or a recommended range for magnification factors for a magnifier such as a loupe or an electronic magnifier to be used by a person wherein the system comprises at least one test object having a predetermined size and a portable camera for recording an image of at least a portion of the at least one test object and displaying at least a portion of the image of the at least one test object to the person, wherein the camera is provided with a light sensitive sensor for obtaining an image of at least a portion of the at least one test object, a display and processing means for processing the image obtained by means of the sensor and for displaying at least a portion of the image of the at least one test object on the display, in possible a magnified form, wherein the camera is provided with means for selecting the magnification of the at least one portion of the image which is displayed on the display and wherein the camera is arranged to calculate the recommended magnification factor and/or the recommended range for magnification factors on basis of a predetermined algorithm wherein the predetermined algorithm uses as parameters: a value representing the selected magnification for the displayed at least one portion of the image, the size of the at least one test object and a distance between an eye of the person and the at least one test object while the at least one test object is seen by the person by means of the portable camera; and/or parameters which can be derived from the value representing the selected magnification for the displayed at least one portion of the image, the size of the at least one test object and a distance between an eye of the person and the object while the at least one test object is seen by the person by means of the portable camera.
Abstract:
A portable camera for recording and displaying an image of an object such as printed paper wherein the camera is arranged to be positioned on an object to be recorded wherein the cameras is provided with an outer lower surface which is arranged to be in contact with the object if the camera is positioned on the object, a light sensitive sensor for obtaining an image of at least a portion of the object, a display and processing means for processing the image obtained by means of the sensor and for displaying at least a portion of the recorded image on the display in a possible magnified form, wherein the camera is provided with at least one lighting unit for lighting the object to be recorded when the camera is positioned on the object, wherein the camera is arranged such that light rays of the at least one lighting unit which are, in use, submitted to the object are directly submitted to the object, possibly via a mirror and/or a lens wherein the lighting unit is arranged within the camera such that if the object which is recorded would be a flat mirror whereon the camera is positioned for recording the flat mirror, the lighting unit is located outside a viewing field of the sensor which viewing field is formed in combination with the flat mirror.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for capturing a text based source image 5, 5A provided on an object 3 supported on a surface. Positioned above the object 3 is a camera 7 for capturing a view of the text based image 5, 5A. The camera 7, through lens 9 generates a focused image of at least part of the object 3 and transmits this image to a processor 11 for magnification of the image captured by the camera 7 to a size specified for display on a display device 15. In the processor 11 the magnification is effected to a rate that is controlled by the second predefined size for display 19, 19A of the font to appear on the display 15 and is independent of the first font size.
Abstract:
A Low Vision enhancing device for recording an object whereon text and/or at least one picture are visible and for displaying the recorded object on a screen, said vision enhancing device being provided with: - an object presenting unit comprising a bottom plate carrying a table for supporting an object to be displayed on a screen, said table being mounted to the bottom plate so as to be displaceable in at least opposite directions in a horizontal plane; - an upstanding stand attached to the bottom plate; - a light sensitive sensor mounted to the upstanding stand for obtaining recording signals of the object which signals are indicative for the text and/or the at least one picture of the object; - processing means for processing the recording signals into video signals; and - a screen preferably mounted to the upstanding stand, which screen, in use, is provided with the video signals for displaying an image of the recorded object on the screen; characterized in that the upstanding stand is arranged to be positioned at a left or right side of the light sensitive sensor and/or the screen if the device is viewed from a user position in front of the screen.
Abstract:
An apparatus to capture and display an image of an object includes a frame, at least one optical sensor for capturing the image of the object, means for moving the frame relative to a surface of the object in a first direction, and means for moving the optical sensor relative to the frame in a second direction.
Abstract:
A braille display comprising an outer wall comprising an outer surface, an inner surface and a plurality of holes extending between the outer surface and the inner surface and which are arranged in an at least substantially regular pattern relative to each other. The braille display is further provided with braille cells wherein each braille cell comprises at least one tactile member which is movable between a first outer position and second outer position and activations means for moving the at least one tactile member between the first and second outer position. The at least one tactile member comprises a free top and each braille cell is located near the inner surface of the tactile member wherein each tactile member extends through one of the holes from the inner surface in a direction of the outer surface, at least if the tactile member is in the second position and wherein a position of the free top of the tactile member relative to the outer surface when the tactile member is in its first position differs from the position of the free top of the tactical member relative to the outer surface when the tactile member is in its second position, wherein each braille cell of a group of the braille cells is attached to the outer wall by means of a connection which acts on the one hand on the braille cell and on the other hand on the outer wall at a location adjacent to the braille cell.
