A process is provided for removing sulfur compounds, such as hydrogen sulfide, thiophenes, etc., out of a hydrocarbon fluid, such as gasoline or diesel fuel, by contacting the hydrocarbon fluid with a sorbent, such as zinc oxide, containing a promotor metal, such as nickel, to produce a desulfurized hydrocarbon fluid and sulfided sorbent. The sulfided sorbent is regenerated under conditions to maintain the average oxygen partial pressure less than about 2 p.s.i. so as to convert the metal sulfide into metal oxide while minimizing sulfation of the sorbent.

A system (13) for producing a mixed gas-oil stream which contains solid particulates wherein gas is to be separated and compressed downhole in a turbine-driven compressor (17 and 18) before the gas is injected into a subterranean formation (15). The stream is passed through a first separator (16) to separate out the particulates which are then passed through a bypass (26, 35, 40, and 41) in the turbine (17) without contacting the rotary vanes (33) of the turbine (17) thereby alleviating the erosive effects of the solids.

A method of seismic interpretation that is designed to improve the quality and speed with which an explorationist can pick and interpret a seismic section or volume. The invention utilizes unseeded picking (300) to create a collection of patches or areas of similar character reflector (348) picks. The method is unsupervised initially and builds an output database (355) that preferably contains the time and amplitude of each "assigned" event, an assigned event being a seismic reflection that is determined to be similar in some sense to its neighboring traces (348). Then, during subsequent interpretation the explorationist quickly builds an interpretation (400) by utilizing and selecting (424) from the pre-assembled collection of similar traces stored in the database.

A method and associated apparatus for removal of benzene, other aromatics and/or other heavier hydrocarbon components from a methane-based gas stream by condensation and stripping. It is desirable to remove benzene and other aromatics to prevent fouling and plugging of processing equipment and it is desirable to recover other heavier hydrocarbon components because of their value. Cooled feed stream (118) is fed to a column (60) and separated into methane-rich vapor stream (120) and benzene/aromatics/heavies liquid (114). The liquid (114) is sent to a heat exchanger (62) to recover refrigeration. Warm dry gas (108) is cooled in the heat exchanger (62) and delivered as stripping gas (109) to the column (60).

In the reaction zone, the vaporized middle distillate is contacted with a sorbent comprising a promoter metal and zinc oxide to thereby provide a desulfurized middle distillate comprising less sulfur than the sulfur-containing middle distillate initially charged to the reaction zone.

A system for measuring and monitoring multi-phase fluid production of a plurality of individual wells (16), each operating as part of a common production field (12). Upstream multi-phase flow measurements are simultaneously taken at each individual well (16). Downstream multi-phase flow measurements are taken at a point where the production from the entire field (12) is combined. The downstream multi-phase flow measurement is allocated back to each individual well (16) based on the measured upstream multi-phase flow for each individual well (16).
