Abstract:
Example methods, apparatus, and articles of manufacture to collect metering information associated with media presented by portable and computer media presentation devices are disclosed. A disclosed example method accesses a first data structure including metering information generated by at least one of first media presentation software executed by a personal computer or second media presentation software executed by a portable media presentation device. The metering information is associated with media presented by at least one of the first or second media presentation software. At least some of the metering information is then extracted from the first data structure and stored in a second data structure. The at least some of the metering information is then communicated from the second data structure to a data collection facility.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for cooperator installed meters are disclosed. An example method includes receiving audience information, configuring the audience meter based on the audience information, placing the audience meter in a sleep mode, and shipping the audience meter to a location associated with the audience information.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for multi-purpose metering are disclosed. An example method includes acquiring a rate of data transfer to/from the monitored location and comparing the acquired rate of data transfer to a threshold. The example method also includes setting at least one media monitoring device in a first bandwidth mode when the acquired rate of data transfer exceeds the threshold, and setting the at least one media monitoring device in a second bandwidth mode when the acquired rate of data transfer is below the threshold.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to monitor audio/visual content from various sources are disclosed. An example method to monitor media content provided by a selected one of a plurality of media content sources for presentation by an information presenting device disclosed herein comprises determining first information based on a video signal corresponding to the monitored media content, determining second information based on an audio signal corresponding to the monitored media content, identifying the selected one of the plurality of media content sources based on a first classification decision resulting from one of the first information and the second information and a second classification decision resulting from the other of the first information and the second information, and identifying the monitored media content based on identification information associated with at least one of the video signal or the audio signal.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for monitoring locally inserted media content are disclosed. A disclosed method includes obtaining identification data and inserting the identification data in the media content after the media content has been received at a media consumption location. Another disclosed method includes receiving media content before the media content is output by a consumer receiving device and monitoring the received media content. Monitoring the received media content may include extracting signatures from the received media content and transmitting the extracted signatures to another location.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to identify a tuned digital television channel are described herein (FIG. 1). In an example method, a tuned major channel is identified (510). Program identifiers (PIDs) associated with the tuned major channel are identified (520). Packets of minor channels associated with the tuned major channel from a multiplexed digital stream of major channels are extracted (530). At least one of the major channels includes minor channels. An audio stream from a digital audio output is extracted (540). Accordingly, a digital signature associated with the extracted audio stream is compared to digital signatures associated with the extracted packets of the minor channels associated with the tuned major channel to identify a tuned digital television channel (550).
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus for monitoring video games are disclosed. An example method disclosed herein comprises monitoring game content corresponding to a game medium played by a game console, processing the game content to determine a set of metering data, and cross-referencing the set of metering data with a set of reference data corresponding to a set of known games.
Abstract:
Methods and apparatus to distinguish a signal originating from a local device from a broadcast signal are disclosed. A disclosed system classifies a video component of an audio-video signal by analyzing a histogram of pixel data, analyzing a quality factor, and/or attempting to detect embedded data in the video component. The disclosed system also classifies an audio component of the audio-video signal by attempting to detect embedded audio data and/or analyzing waveform energy associated with the audio component. A source of the audio-video signal is determined based on the video classification and/or the audio classification.
Abstract:
Method and apparatus for detecting a channel change event comprising attempting to detect a channel number in a first region of interest of a screenshot of a television display (406), if the channel number is detected (424), recording the cahnnel change event (432).
Abstract:
A transcoder (22) is adapted to performed to transcoding of metadata to enable sharing and consumption of media content at dissimilar devices (12) that are coupled to a home network (10). The transcoder (22), which is also coupled to the home network (10), is adapted to receive media content and metadata from a first media consumption device (12), to transcode the media content and metadata from a first format to second format, and to supply the transcoded media content and metadata to the second media consumption device (12) in the second format.
