Abstract: 251,928. Simplex Refining Co., (Assignees of Kramer, G. A.). May 9, 1925, [Convention date]. Hydrocarbons, distilling; distilling plant. - Lubricating oils are obtained by distilling in presence of steam and under pressures of about 5 mm. of mercury, petroleum products, preferably those from which fractions boiling below 600‹ F. at ordinary pressure have been removed. The vapours are cooled at the low pressure to separate lubricating oils and are increased in pressure by a steam jet ejector prior to condensation of the steam. A still 2 heated by a burner 20 is supplied with preheated oil from a tubular heater 1 and with steam from a perforated pipe 17. The vapours pass from a dome 16 covered with heat insulating material 22 to a condenser 3 cooled by passage of air from a pump 28 through a valve 29 and through tubes 26. The condensate passes through a seal pipe 31 and cooling coil 35 and is withdrawn by a pump 38. Uncondensed vapours pass through a water-cooled coil 43, and are forced at increased pressure by a steam jet ejector 5 into a condenser 51 from which condensate passes into a separator 8 and is withdrawn by a pump 54, and steam and other uncondensed vapours pass into a condenser 9 evacuated by an air pump 65 and supplied with condensing water from a rose 57.
