Abstract:
Abstract:
A headerless, faul-tolerant sample-data servo pattern, comprising an alternating sequence of first and second servo sectors (300, 300'), with the first servo sectors each including a partial track address and circumferential orientation information (330), and the second servo sectors each including a full track address (335 and 340), provides an absolute indication of a read/write head's circumferential orientation along a given track on a magnetic disk which is robust in the presence of defects in the magnetic recording medium.
Abstract:
Abstract:
A removable cartridge (20) for a radial arm voice coil actuated disc drive includes a door (34) which is movable from a locked closed position to an open position by a shutter lever of the disc drive. The door (34) of the removable cartridge (20) includes a removed portion and internal arcuate recesses for additionally facilitated access by a radial arm voice coil actuator.
Abstract:
A removable cartridge disk drive (100) that receives cartridges at an angle relative to the base of the drive. The removable cartridge disk drive ejects cartridges (101) at an angle relative to the base of the drive such that the cartridge opens the disk drive door (286). The removable cartridge may contain multiple disks and is further configured to conform to a 3.5 inch form factor while the corresponding disk drive has a drive height of 1 inch or less. The removable cartridge disk drive also has a bent wire (246) mounted to a suspension on the actuator (110) that engages a head load/unload ramp while a head is over the disk, thereby permitting the disk drive to utilize a stationary head load/unload ramp. The disk drive further has a Burst In Range mode that ignores servo errors unless the servo error occurred during a target data sector and unless the servo error is a certain type of servo error. A history of recent error conditions is maintained. The Special Data Sector mode identifies the exact data sector during which a servo error was detected. The removable cartridge used by the disk drive has an anti-rattle feature.
Abstract:
A removable cartridge (200) having a housing (202, 204) and a recess formed therein in which is located a tang (208) of a cartridge mounting mechanism. The cartridge mounting mechanism provides for positioning of a disk assembly (220, 226) located within the removable cartridge (200) over a spindle motor (54) for mounting thereto. By recessing the tang (208) of the mounting mechanism, the overall height of the cartridge (200) is reduced. The removable cartridge (200) also includes a specially configured slot (256) for enhanced positioning of the removable cartridge relative to a disk drive.
Abstract:
A disk drive (30) for receiving a removable cartridge (200) having a recess (266, 270) formed in an exterior surface thereof, and an engaging surface of the disk assembly mounting mechanism (56) is located in that recession. The drive possesses a handle (58) having a lever (70) which extends into the recess to contact the engaging surface of the disk assembly mounting mechanism, whereby further movement of the handle causes the mounting mechanism to move in such a manner that a disk assembly within the removable cartridge is positioned over a spindle motor (54) of the drive for mounting thereto. Other features such as position sensors and enhanced cartridge positioning mechanisms are also provided.
Abstract:
A removable cartridge (200) for a disk drive (30) which has a 1.8 inch form factor, has multifunction features which allow for high data storage capacity at a reduced size. The cartridge (200) includes a cartridge screw (206) which engages the cartridge nut (221) defined in the cartridge housing base (204) for allowing the disk (220) in the cartridge (200) to be positioned relative to the cartridge housing base (204) in order to successfully engage the spindle motor nose (56) of a disk drive (30). The cartridge screw (206) additionally prevents the disk (220) from rattling within the cartridge (200) whether the cartridge (200) is removed from the disk drive (30). The cartridge (200) further includes a multiplicity of projections (212, 214), tang (208), and rails (216) which contact the drive (30) to perform the functions of proper reception and registration of the cartridge (200) in the cartridge receiving mechanism (53) of the disk drive (30) and proper operation of the cartridge (200) as the cartridge (200) is manipulated by the disk drive (30).
