[Class 44] A fastening particularly for electrical junction and distribution boxes such, for example, as are employed in the wiring system described in Specification 552,502, [Group XXXVI], comprises a pair of triangular ears c secured to a rectangular frame a welded to the bottom b of the box, and a spring loaded plunger mounted on the lid, the plunger being biased outwards by a compression spring h and carrying at its inner end a cross pin g the ends of which project through and are slidably guided in slots formed in a block e secured to the lid. When the lid is closed the ends of the cross pin ride over and engage behind the parts c' of the ears c under action of spring h. Release is effected by pressing in the plunger by means of a knob i which is in the form of an anchored nut on the screw-threaded - outer end of the plunger. The knob may be screwed into contact with the outer surface of the lid to lock the pin positively in engagement behind the ears c. As described a pair of fastenings above are provided at opposite ends of the box.

An enlargement j provides a shoulder k to retain the plug contact and by screwing up the screw l until the spring is fully compressed the plug is locked in the socket. The form of the members d 2 may be varied to provide a single socket, a double ended socket as shown in Fig. 2, a socket with a clip contact for a fuse, or a polygonal or flat socket. A switch y', Fig. 12, may be combined with the socket, the switch-contact 1 bridging between the socket d 1 and a plate carrying a fuse clip 2, or between two sockets similar to d 1 . A double fuse clip 3 receives the other end of the fuse w. The box e has semicircular recesses g 11 in its base and cover to form a circular aperture corresponding to a groove k in the grommet i. A liner f secured within the box has slots g comprising a tapered portion leading to a constriction beyond which the slot is of circular outline g 1 . The grommet is resiliently compressed to pass the constriction which then retains it in place. The grommet has a tapered formation l to direct water away from the box-wall.
