Abstract: The treating composition is composed of (1) a precipitated mixture of ferrous sulfate, slaked lime and sodium sulfide in the ratio of 2.5-3.5:0.8-1.2:0.8-1.2 and (2) a polymeric flocculant. The treatment of waste water of pH 1-3 is conducted by (A) adjusting the pH to 4 with NaOH solution, (B) adding the component (1) to readjust the pH to 7 (the amount of (1) used is equivalent to 5,000-8,000 ppm wrt waste water), (C) agitating the waste water while adding the flocculant (2) in the amount of 0.3-0.4 ppm wrt waste water, and (D) filtering the waste water to separate a upper liquid and a deposit.

Abstract: The process for treating waste water containing mixed heavy metals comprises (1) adding sodium hypochlorite to the mixed waste water, (2) adding slaked lime or sodium hydroxide aqueous solution into the waste liquid of (1) to adjust the pH to 11-12 under aeration, (3) adding ferrous sulfate into the waste liquid of (2) to lower the pH to 9-8, while agitating continuously them, (4) adding ferric chloride or ferrous chloride into (3) to readjust the pH to 4-4.5, (5) adding sodium sulfate into (4) to lower the pH to 6-7, and finally (6) treating (5) with polymeric flocculant.
