    Abstract: PURPOSE: A novel manufacturing method of optically active piperidine compounds is provided to recycle (R)-(4- chlorophenyl) 2 and to simply manufacture bepotastine at low cost. CONSTITUTION: A manufacturing method of (s)-4-(4-((4- chlorophenyl)((0001) 2- pyridyl) methoxy piperidino)butanoic acid) compound having a structural formula (I) comprises the following steps: reacting (R)-((4- chlorophenyl) -2- pyridyl) methanol having a structural formula (II) with the compound of the structural formula (II); and reacting a compound having the structural formula (III) with the compound having the structural formula (V). In the structural formula, R1 indicates methyl, ethyl, phenyl, or tolyl group, and R2 indicates hydrogen, lower alkyl having 2-4 carbons or - (CH2) n-COOR3. R3 indicates hydrogen, alkali metal, or the low alkyl group having 1-4 carbons. The compound of the structural formula (IV) is a useful intermediate compound for manufacturing the compound having the structural formula (I).
