Abstract: PURPOSE: A bidirectional WDM(Wavelength Division Multiplexing) self-recovering optical communication network is provided to proceed optical signals on both sides by using a one-strip optical fiber, and to transmit a transmission capacity transmitted from an existing two-strip self-recovering optical communication network, thereby doubling usage efficiency of the optical fiber. CONSTITUTION: A transmitter(100) modulates the same data into even-numbered channels and odd-numbered channels, and transmits the modulated data. A wavelength-alternate bidirectional add/drop multiplexer(200) proceeds the odd-numbered channels and the even-numbered channels in reverse direction, alternately inserts the channels to unite optical signals as one signal, demultiplexes receiving signals to drop the signals, and multiplexes transmission signals to add the transmission signals. A switch(300) senses whether the receiving signals are generated, and converts the signals to prevent a failure. A receiver(400) receives the switched signals.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A bidirectional add/drop multiplexer of a wavelength alternation system is provided to perform bidirectional transmissions, and to reduce the number of optical elements, then to interleave channels for configuring forward and reverse optical signals, thereby increasing efficiency of optical fiber and wavelength bands. CONSTITUTION: The first interleaver(545) outputs a forward optical signal to the second end, and outputs a reverse optical signal through the first end. The second interleaver(585) interleaves the forward optical signal and the reverse optical signal by wavelength, and outputs the interleaved signals through the third end. An add/drop multiplexer adds a channel selected in the interleaved optical signals, or drops the selected channel. The third interleaver(590) outputs the reverse optical signal to the first interleaver(545), and outputs the rest forward optical signal through the third end. The fourth interleaver(595) outputs a reverse optical signal to the second interleaver(585), and outputs a forward optical signal to the second end.
