Abstract: PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for reducing power consumption using a packet filtering in a portable terminal are provided to enable a modem to filter a packet by a making necessary packet list. CONSTITUTION: An application processing unit(104) offers a necessary packet list filtering list to a packet confirmation device(106). The packet confirmation device filters only the packets which are included in the list. The packet confirmation device offers the packets included in list to the application processing unit. The application processing unit wakes up when receiving the packet from the packet confirmation device in a sleep mode state.

Abstract: A method of transmitting and receiving video data in a digital broadcasting service and an apparatus thereof are provided to decode only encoded frames when a part of frames among video data of a digital broadcast is encoded and transmitted, thereby restoring a complete image. A data processing unit encodes video data according to the H.264 mode(S401). A code control unit obtains frame information which is information about a kind of a frame among I, B, and P frames(S403). The data processing unit encodes video data according to an RTP protocol(S405). The data processing unit encodes video data according to a protocol in U(S407). The code control unit determines whether a frame of video data is the I frame based on frame information(S409). When the frame of video data is the I frame, the code control unit controls the data processing unit to code a corresponding frame(S411).
