The present invention relates to a portable terminal and, more specifically, to an apparatus and a method for reducing the battery consumption of a portable terminal. The method for reducing the battery consumption of the portable terminal comprises: a process for calculating path information from the current position of the portable terminal to the inputted destination and alarm time for arrival in the destination or the neighboring area of the destination when the destination is inputted; and a process for deactivating a positioning module before the alarm time for grasping the current position by activating the positioning module of the portable terminal in the alarm time, and for notifying the user when the current position is the destination or the neighboring area of the destination.

PURPOSE: A status recognition apparatus and a status recognition method are provided to minimize power consumption of a mobile communication terminal as performing status recognition continuously by using a sensor. CONSTITUTION: An application processor (10) judges whether an operation conversion condition to convert into a sleep mode is satisfied or not. When the operation conversion condition is satisfied, the application processor requests the operation of a status recognition function to a micro control unit (20). The application processor is converted into the sleep mode. If the application processor is converted into the sleep mode, the micro control unit operates the status recognition function. The micro control unit receives sensor data at every predetermined time from at least one sensor. The micro control unit updates status information on the basis of the received sensor data. PURPOSE: An apparatus and method for detecting location information using a navigation algorithm like radio navigation and walking navigation are provided to accurately identify the location information of a user even in an environment in which a car navigation system is unable to provide the location information of the user. CONSTITUTION: An apparatus for detecting location information comprises an UI(User Interface), a GPS(Global Positioning System) receiving unit(103), and a navigation algorithm control unit. The UI interfaces with a user. The GPS receiving unit searches around a GPS satellite and receives pseudo range information from at least one of searched GPS satellites. The navigation algorithm control unit calculates the displacement of a pedestrian terminal based on detected steps of a pedestrian and corrects the displacement of the pedestrian terminal calculated by using the received pseudo range information. The navigation algorithm control unit measures the location of the pedestrian terminal by using a corrected value.

A mobile terminal having an animation character interworking with a foot action and its control method are provided to enhance utilization and competitiveness of a mobile terminal considerably by having a health management function allowing measurement of calorie consumption of the user. A short-range communication unit(122) receives foot action information from a foot action sensing module(10) positioned at the user's foot. An animation module(141) generates a continuous motion of an animation character according to the foot action information received by the short-range communication unit(122). A screen display unit(131) outputs the motion of the character. A calorie consumption calculating module(142) calculates calorie consumption according to the foot action information. A behavior program(151) drives the animation module(141) according to a type of the user's behavior.

A game apparatus of using the movement of a mobile communication terminal and a method thereof are provided to employ a sensor as if a user uses a real game tool so that the user has a good time while playing a game, and to employ the operation degree of the mobile terminal for the game, thereby widening the use range of the sensor and providing various sounds and game images. After cards are distributed in a game mode, a selected card is processed according to a proceeding sequence(205,210). It is determined whether a user selects a card when a user's turn arrives(220). The movement of a mobile terminal is detected, and the movement is determined as an operation of performing a game option if the card is selected(235). The selected card is processed according the operation, and a sound effect is output according to the processing result(255). The game includes a go-stop game.
