Abstract: PURPOSE: A system and method for providing TV portal service using a message-based protocol are provided to control overall service including user's system log-on, utilization and management of each service, message service and log-off by constructing the TV portal service using a message-based protocol for integrating individual services. CONSTITUTION: A TV portal service providing system includes a plurality of service applications(140,150,160,170,180,190,200) and a messaging client terminal(110). The service applications carry out a plurality of portal services in response to service messages received from a server at the request of a user. The messaging client terminal converts service request messages generated from the plurality of service applications into a message frame format through a message-based protocol and transmits the message frame format to the server. The client terminal receives a message frame format for a service message transmitted from the server and parses the received message frame format to provide the parsed service message to service application corresponding to the service message.
