Abstract: A VECSEL(Vertical External Cavity Surface Emitting Laser) is provided to improve the frequency converting efficiency of an SHG(Second Harmonic Generation) crystal by including a microlens for collecting light inputted to the SHG crystal. A VECSEL includes a light emitting device(120), an SHG crystal(130), and an external resonating mirror(150). The light emitting device(120) includes a mirror layer(122) for limiting a resonating region, an active layer(123) for generating light, a heat diffuser(127) for cooling the active layer(123), and a microlens(129) coupled to the heat diffuser(127) and having a convex outer surface for collecting light. The SHG crystal(130) converts the frequency of the light collected by the microlens(129). The external resonating mirror(150) transmits the light with the frequency converted by the SHG crystal(130) to output the light as laser, and reflects the light with the frequency which is not converted to the mirror layer(122) for resonating the light.

Abstract: A surface emitting laser aligned with a pump laser on a single heat-sink is provided to reduce an entire size by installing a pump laser and a laser chip on one single heat-sink. A laser chip(31) has a gain structure for emitting light of a predetermined wavelength and is disposed on a center of an upper surface of a heat-sink(30). An external mirror(36) is positioned apart from the laser chip in order to output partially the light of the laser chip and to reflect partially the light of the laser chip to the outside. A pump laser(33) is disposed on one side of an upper surface of the heat-sink in order to emit horizontally the light for pumping beams to operate the laser chip. A reflecting mirror(35) is disposed at the other side of the upper surface of the heat-sink in order to reflect the light for pumping beams to the laser chip.
