Abstract:
The present invention relates to a power saving in a wireless local area network including a plurality of access points providing at least one mobile station in each access point cell boundary with access service, the mobile station transits between an active mode and an idle mode. The power saving method includes grouping the access points into at least one paging group with a paging group boundary; determining if the a mobile station is in the idle mode in which the mobile station switches between an awake state and a doze state every predetermined time interval, or the active mode in which the mobile station is in the awake mode; and if the mobile station is in the idle mode enabling an idle handoff which occurs only when the mobile station crosses the paging group boundary. In the present invention, the handoff occurs when the mobile terminal crosses the paging group boundary but not the access point cell in the idle mode, resulting in reduction of power consumption.

A method for scanning access points during mobile station's handoff in a wireless communication system, a mobile station for performing the same, a network interface for supporting the same, and a wireless communication system applied with the same are provided to search an access point existing in an available channel during a scanning operation of the mobile station and obtain access point information of the searched access point, thereby minimizing scanning latency. A method for scanning access points comprises the following steps of: transmitting query data to one or more access points(201,202) with respect to a predetermined channel(351); receiving response data to the query data from the access point existing in the channel; request access point information to the access point which has transmitted the response data; and receiving the access point information from the access point(353).
Abstract:
A wireless LAN apparatus and method for controlling a transmission rate in consideration of collision are provided to reduce delay of an increase in a transmission rate or a reduction in the transmission rate by determining whether a data transmission failure has been caused by a channel error or data collision. A wireless LAN communicating unit(102) transmits/receives data, and transmits/receives an RTS(Request-To-Send) frame and a CTS(Clear-To-Send) frame. An RTS/CTS generating unit(104) generates the RTS frame and the CTS frame. When a data transmission is failed, a controller(100) initializes the number of successes and increases the number of failures, and when execution conditions of the RTS/CTS exchange method are met, the controller(100) executes the RTS/CTS exchange method. The controller(100) compares the number of data transmission failures and a failure number threshold value, and if the number of failures is greater than the threshold value, the controller(100) reduces the transmission rate of a wireless LAN apparatus by one step, and re-transmits data.

PURPOSE: A packet transmission apparatus of a communication system and a method therefor are provided to support a QoS(Quality of Service) and increase a transmission throughput of an MAC by solving a problem of aggregation of packets with different destination addresses. CONSTITUTION: An aggregation module(300) aggregates packets coming down from an upper layer(310) and transmits them to an MAC(Medium Access Control) layer(330). The aggregation module(300) determines, generates and processes aggregation. The aggregation module(300) obtains information of a QoS session, and information of a data rate that can be detected through a state of a buffer from the upper layer(310), and receives information on a channel state of each mobile terminal from the MAC layer(330). The aggregation module(300) aggregates packets based on the information and transmits an aggregation packet generated based on the information to the MAC layer(330).
