Abstract: Gaseous glass raw material (SiCl4, GeCl4) and fuel gas are jetted from a burner onto a seed rod at a temperature to deposit a soot of low specific bulk density (0.02-0.1). The deposited soot is then heated by another burner to increase the bulk density (0.15-0.5) and finally sintered.
