Abstract: PURPOSE: A staggered deflecting blade for promoting mixture of coolant for nuclear fuel cluster is provided to improve heat transfer between a fuel rod and a coolant by minimizing a pressure loss due to a deflecting blade. CONSTITUTION: A nuclear fuel cluster is composed of a fuel rod, a fixed unit for supporting the fuel rod, a supporting grid for keeping a space between the fuel rods. The supporting grid includes a deflecting blade(22) and a blade supporter(24) with a mountain shape. A slot(25) and a welding window(26) for connecting supporting grids, which intersects each other, are provided on a center of the blade supporter(24). A portion of the deflecting blade(22) facing the fuel rod is of a curved surface. The deflecting blade(22) generates a swirl to promote heat transfer between the fuel rod and a coolant for a nuclear fuel cluster.

Abstract: PURPOSE: A nuclear fuel set supporting grid having a rotating mobility generating device is provided to enhance cooling performance of a supporting grid for maintaining mobility structure with strongly generating rotation mobility structure of cooling water. CONSTITUTION: A nuclear fuel set supporting grid(1) comprises rotating mobility generating devices(20), dimples(40), and springs(30). Each dimple(40) has its curvature equal to the curvature of a nuclear fuel rod. Each rotating mobility generating device(20) has a shape of a pin wheel rotating in counterclockwise direction. The springs(30) and the dimples(40) have plane contact with the nuclear fuel rod. Each rotating mobility generating device(20) has four wings(23) and arranged at a top cross point of grid plates(2,3). The wings(23) are bent with an axis from the top point of the device(20) to a cross point of a side of the device(20) and the grid plates(2,3). The bent angle is less than 90°. A cross point of the wings(23) is welded at its top and has a welding window(25).

Abstract: A double strip mixing grid for nuclear reactor fuel assemblies is disclosed. This grid is fabricated by intersecting at right angles a plurality of double strips, each fabricated by welding two thin sheets together into a single structure with coolant channels. The mixing grid, having the channels, effectively mixes low temperature coolant with high temperature coolant within a fuel assembly, thus improving the thermal efficiency of the fuel assemblies. This mixing grid also effectively prevents the coolant from being partially overheated, thus improving the soundness of nuclear reactors. This mixing grid also has swirling flow blades and/or lateral flow blades to further improve the thermal efficiency of the fuel assembly. This mixing grid elastically supports the fuel rods by the sheets of the double strips, collaterally acting as positioning springs. Each double strip also has a vertical slot at a position around each channel, and so the elastic range of the positioning springs of the grid is preferably enlarged. The slots also enlarge the fuel rod contact area of the grid, thereby effectively protecting the fuel rod from fretting corrosion. In addition, the intersecting strips are welded together at the intersections through a continuous welding process, thus improving the mechanical strength of the grid.
