Abstract: A user library is called from an existing document writer (6), and, if there has occurred no error in calling the user library, the library is converted to a TDS (a document which can be easily processed by the program). If the document pertains to the intended one, it is encoded, and, if the intended data for the page is found, then it is encoded. If the intended data for the block is found, then it is encoded, and, if the final data is the desired one, then it is encoded. With the method, the existing document editing apparatus can be used as a mixed terminal without adding modifications.

Abstract: Mixed documents are read by receiving them through a communication receiving module (6), and then, the ODIF (the document interchange form) is interpreted. Then a conversion is made to a TDS (internal data which can be processed by the program), and then, the TDS is processed to output them in the form of images. With the method, the greater part of picture data is not stored in the picture memory, but is stored in an auxiliary memory, and therefore, the bulk of memory is reduced.
