Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a user with a more efficient procedure easy for the user to understand for unlocking a device, a touch screen and/or an application and further with a sensible feedback about a progress state in the direction of satisfying a user input condition required to perform shifting.SOLUTION: The present invention includes: a step 204 for displaying an image on a touch sensitive display while a device is in a user interface lock state; a step 208 for sensing contact with the touch sensitive display; a step 214 for shifting the device to a user interface unlock state in the case that the sensed contact corresponds to the movement of the image to a prescribed position on the touch sensitive display; and a step 212 for holding the device in the user interface lock state in the case that the sensed contact does not correspond to the movement of the image to the prescribed position.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable multifunction device accompanying a more transparent and intuitive user interface for instant messaging.SOLUTION: Portable electronic equipment for instant messaging is disclosed. One embodiment includes a graphic user interface (GUI) of the portable electronic equipment accompanying touch screen display. The GUI has a set of messages to be exchanged between a user of the equipment and another individual. The set of messages is displayed in a chronological order. In response to detection of a scroll gesture consisting of substantial vertical movement of user contact with the touch screen display, display of the messages is scrolled based on a direction of the scroll gesture. The detection of the scroll gesture is substantially independent of a horizontal position of the user contact with the touch screen display.
Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a portable device which adaptively determines a cursor position through finger contact with a touch screen display, and carries out operation based upon the cursor position.SOLUTION: The portable device with the touch screen display detects a contact area between a finger and the touch screen display, and then determines a first position related to the contact area. The cursor position of the finger contact is determined based upon the first position, one or more distances between the first position and one or more user interface objects, and at least some of one or more activation sensitivity numbers related to respective user interface objects among the plurality of user interface objects. When the cursor position is in a hidden hit area of a virtual push button on the touch screen display, the portable device is activated so as to perform operation related to the virtual push button.
Abstract:
A user interface for handling multiple calls includes displaying an image associated with a first party on a first call and an image associated with a second party on a second call. When one call is active and the other call is on hold, the image associated with the party that is on the active call is visually highlighted to make it more visually prominent relative to the other image. When both calls are joined into a conference call, both images are displayed adjacent to each other and neither is visually highlighted relative to the other.
Abstract:
A portable electronic device with a touch screen display for photo management is disclosed. One aspect of the invention involves a computer-implemented method in which the portable electronic device displays an array of thumbnail images corresponding to a set of photographic images. The device replaces the displayed array of thumbnail images with a user-selected photographic image upon detecting a user contact with a corresponding thumbnail image in the array. The user-selected photographic image is displayed at a larger scale than the corresponding thumbnail image. The portable device displays a different photographic image in replacement of the user-selected photographic image in accordance with a scrolling gesture. The scrolling gesture comprises a substantially horizontal movement of user contact with the touch screen display.

Abstract:
A portable multifunction device displays a first widget on a touch screen and detects a first gesture on a settings icon on the first widget. In response to the first gesture, the device displays user-adjustable settings for a plurality of widgets, including settings for the first widget. The device detects one or more additional gestures to change one or more settings for one or more widgets in the plurality of widgets. In response to the additional gestures, the device changes one or more settings for other widgets, including changing one or more settings for a respective widget other than the first widget. Upon detecting a widget selection gesture and a finishing gesture on the touch screen, the device displays a second widget in the plurality of widgets other than the first widget.
Abstract:
A portable multifunction device identifies a plurality of user interface objects. If the user interface objects meet a first predefined condition, the device then displays at least two of the user interface objects on a touch screen display. If the user interface objects meet a second predefined condition, the device then divides the user interface objects into at least first and second groups of user interface objects and then displays a first group icon corresponding to the first group and at least one user interface object from the second group on the touch screen display. If the user interface objects meet a third predefined condition, the device divides the user interface objects into at least third and fourth groups of user interface objects. The device then displays a third group icon corresponding to the third group and a fourth group icon corresponding to the fourth group.
Abstract:
A plurality of icons are displayed on a touch-sensitive display. A respective icon in at least a subset of the plurality of icons corresponds to two or more symbols. A contact by a user with the touch-sensitive display that corresponds to the respective icon is detected. A respective symbol in the two or more symbols to which the contact further corresponds is determined. The displayed respective icon is modified to indicate that the contact corresponds to the respective symbol.
Abstract:
A computer-implemented method for use in conjunction with a computing device with a touch screen display comprises: detecting one or more finger contacts with the touch screen display, applying one or more heuristics to the one or more finger contacts to determine a command for the device, and processing the command. The one or more heuristics comprise: a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a one- dimensional vertical screen scrolling command, a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a two-dimensional screen translation command, and a heuristic for determining that the one or more finger contacts correspond to a command to transition from displaying a respective item in a set of items to displaying a next item in the set of items.
