Abstract: Filters made from stainless steel or glass fibres, used for sepn. of SO3 mist and mechanical impurities from SO2-contg. gases, esp. gases from pyrite-roasting or sulphur-burning plants, are freed from deposits of elemental sulphur by treatment with gaseous SO3 (in gas mixtures or pref. in the pure state). This method is esp. suitable for purification of gases having a high SO2-content (e.g. 15-19 vol.%), which are passed to a SO2-liquefaction plant.
