Abstract: Hexahydro-triazines having the formula in which X represents chlorine or bromine are prepared by reacting a -chloro- or a -bromoacrylonitrile with formaldehyde. Other compounds containing a plurality of CH2=CXCO-groups (X being halogen) are prepared by reacting two moles of an acid halide CH2=CXCO.X with one mole of ethylene diamine, propylene diamine, butylene diamine, hexamethylene diamine or 1,4-diamine benzene-3-sulphonic acid, or three moles of the acid halide with one mole of diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine or dipropylene triamine. All these compounds may be used in dyeing compositions (see Division D1). The polyamines may be reacted alternatively with an acid halide Y-CH2-CH.XCOX wherein X is halogen and Y is halogen or a quaternized nitrogen atom yielding products which in admixture with alkali may also be used in the dyeing compositions; reference is made in this connection to the tris-quaternary compound obtained by reacting hexahydro-1,3,5 - tris - (a ,b - dichloropropionyl) - S - triazine with a tertiary amine whereby each b -chloro-atom is quaternated.ALSO:The invention comprises compositions and a process for dyeing and/or fluorescent brightening of textile materials in which the material is treated in the presence of an alkaline-reacting agent with a dye or fluorescent brightener having one or more reactive hydrogen atoms preferably attached by nitrogen, oxygen or sulphur, or which is capable of forming one or more reactive hydrogen atoms during the process and with at least one uncoloured polyfunctional compound containing two or more groups of the general formula I:- H2C=CX-CO-in which X denote a halogen atom preferably chlorine or bromine attached to nitrogen or capable of forming two or more such groups during the process. Many types of dyes are specified and may be water soluble or insoluble but preferably contain primary or secondary amino groups, sulphonic amide groups, sulphonic alkylamide groups, hydroxyl groups or sulphydryl groups. Hydroxy-alkylene and amino-alkylene groups are referred to as are heterocyclic ring systems such as indole and triazole as sources of reactive hydrogen atoms. Reactive hydrogen atoms may be obtained by conversion of methylene ether or ester groups to methylol groups. Reactive dyes are specifically referred to. The uncoloured polyfunctional compounds include derivatives of 1, 3, 5-S-triazine and of various diamines and triamines. Compounds which may form the required groups of Formula I are those which have the groups of formula:- -CO - CHX -CH2 - Y in which X is halogen preferably chlorine or bromine and Y is halogen or a quatermixed nitrogen atom. Fixation of the dyes on the fabric is at room temperature or by steaming or dry heating at temperature of up to 200 DEG C. Conventional methods of application are used and dispersing agents, dyeing or printing auxiliaries may be used. Alkaline reagents used are alkali metal hydroxides or salts of weak acids, also organic reagents include pyridine and benzyltrmethylammonium hydroxide. Fabric treated include, cellulose acetate, polyacrylonitrile and its copolymers, polyesters, wool, silk and linear polyamides.

Abstract: The invention comprises water-soluble azo dyes of formula wherein A is the radical of a carbo- or heterocyclic diazo component, R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, araliphatic or phenyl radical, R2 is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic or phenyl radical, X is a water-solubilizing group, Y is a reactive group capable of forming a covalent link between the dye and a fibre containing functional groups, Z is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or a methoxy, acetyl, amino, thiocyano, carboxymethyleneoxy or sulphonamide group, n is 1, 2 or 3, m is 0, 1 or 2 and when m is 0 the dye contains at least one group which will react with a polyfunctional reactive compound (i.e. a compound which will react with both the dye and a fibre to form covalent links with each) under normal dyeing conditions for reactive dyes (see Division D1). The dyes are prepared by the axial coupling processes or by treating dyes wherein m is 0 with, for example, cyanuric chloride or its primary condensation products. Many reactive groups and polyfunctional reactive compounds are specified. The dyes are used to colour wool, silk and polyamide fibres and in particular cellulose fibres by the usual processes for reactive dyes. Specification 958,659 is referred to.ALSO:Azo dyes of formula wherein A is the radical of a carbo- or heterocyclic diazo component, R1 is a substituted or unsubstituted aliphatic, araliphatic or phenyl radical, R2 is a hydrogen atom or an aliphatic or phenyl radical, X is a water-solubilising group Y is a reactive group capable of forming a covalent link between the dye and a fibre containing functional groups, Z is a hydrogen, chlorine or bromine atom or a methoxy, acetyl, amino, thiocyano, carboxymethyleneoxy or sulphonamide group, n is 1, 2 or 3 and m is 0 1 or 2 and when m is O the dye contains at least one group which will react with a polyfunctional compound are used to dye and print nitrogenous and, preferably, cellulose fibres in acid or alkaline medium when required together with polyfunctional reactive compounds (i.e. compounds which will react with both the dye and the fibre to form covalent links with each). Specified polyfunctional compounds include (a) alkaline medium:-butachiene dioxide, cyanuric chloride and hexahydro-1,3,5-triacryloyl-s-triazine (b) acid medium:-visable aminoplast-forming substances containing groups of formula wherein X is O, S, NH or N,R4 is hydrogen, or aryl or an aliphatic radical which may form a ring with the nitrogen and carbon atoms and R1 is alkyl or hydrogen, such as dimethylolurea, dimethyloldicyano-diamide, methylolthioured, dimethylolguanidine and trimethlol-melamine. In Example (19) the dye 2-ammonaphthalene-4, 8-disulphonic acid --> 1-(3-amino-n-propyl)-2-phenylindole is pasted with hexahydro-1,3,5-triacryloyl-s-triazine, polyvinyl alcohol, formaldehyde-naphthalene-sulphonic acid condensate, urea, water, sodium bicarbonate and sodium alginate, the paste printed on cotton and steamed to give a yellow print. In Example 20 the reactive dye of Example 10 is employed to dye cotton in conventional manner.

Abstract: Textile materials are dyed and/or printed by treating the materials, if necessary at elevated temperatures, in the presence of an alkaline-reacting agent with at least one dye which contains one or more reactive hydrogen atoms, preferably attached by way of N, O or S atoms, or which is capable of making such H atoms available during the process, and with at least one uncoloured polyfunctional compound having the general formula: in which at least two substituents A are an X-CH2-CH2-CO- group where X is the radical of a 2 DEG amine attached by way of nitrogen and the other A may be a H2C=CH-CO- or Z+ -O3S-CH2-CH2-CO- group where Z is a cation. The radicals X may be the same or different and may be radicals of dimethylamine, diethylamine, diethanolamine, piperidine, pyrrolidine, morpholine, pyrrole or imidazole and Z may be H, NH4, Na or K. The alkaline-reacting agent, the dye and the polyfunctional compound may be applied successively in any sequence but are preferably applied simultaneously. The dyebath or printing paste may further contain dispersing agents, protective colloids and/or printing auxiliaries. The dyeings may be fixed by steaming or dry-heating at 100-130 DEG C. or 140-160 DEG C. respectively and finished off normally. Examples of dyeing and printing cotton, spun rayon and acrylonitrile fabrics are given.

Abstract: The invention comprises dyes of the general formula: in which D denotes the radical of a dye of the azo, anthraquinone or phthalocyanine series, Y denotes a linear or branched unsubstituted or substituted alkylene group having at least two carbon atoms, R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, halo alkyl, cyanoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, R2 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, R3 denotes an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may be substituted and/or polyvalent, Z denotes an unsubstituted or substituted ethylene or vinylene group, n denotes a whole number which is greater than 1 and X\sKX denotes an anion of a mineral acid, preferably a chloride or bromide ion. The characteristic heterocyclic radical in the dyes may be derived from polyvinylimidazole. In Examples (4) and (8) anthraquinones of the formula: are reacted with polyvinylimidazole to obtain blue and red dyes and in Example (11) b -chloropropionyl-p-amino-anilide is reacted with polyvinylimidazole and the product is diazotised and coupled with 1-hydroxynaphthalene-4-sulphonic acid to obtain a red dye.ALSO:The invention comprises any dye of the general formula in which D denotes the radical of a dye of the azo, anthraquinone or phthalocyanine series, Y denotes a linear or branched unsubstituted or substituted alkylene group having at least two carbon atoms, R1 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl, hydroxyalkyl, haloalkyl, cyanoalkyl, cycloalkyl, aralkyl or aryl radical, R2 denotes a hydrogen atom or an alkyl radical, R3 denotes an aliphatic hydrocarbon radical which may be substituted and/or polyvalent, Z denotes an unsubstituted or substituted ethylene or vinylene group, n denotes a whole number which is greater than or equal to 1 and X(-) denotes an anion of a mineral acid, preferably a chloride or bromide ion and processes for the preparation thereof wherein (a) a dye or dye intermediate of the general formula in which D1 denotes the radical of a water-soluble dye of the azo, anthraquinone, or phthalocyanine series or the radical of an intermediate of such a dye and A denotes a chlorine or bromine atom is reacted with a compound of the general formula and when a dye intermediate has been used is completed into a dye by diazotization and (or coupling or by condensation or (b) a dye or dye intermediate of the general formula is reacted with an acid halide containing a cation of the general formula and when a dye intermediate has been used the reaction product is completed into a dye by diazotization and/or coupling or by condensation. The initial dyes or dye intermediates preferably contain one or more water-solubilizing groups, e.g. sulphonic, sulphonamide or sulphone groups, The characteristic heterocyclic radical in the dyes may be derived from such compounds as N-vinylimidazole or the N-methyl or N-ethyl derivatives thereof, polyvinylimidazole and N-hydroxyethyl-2-ethylimidazoline. Halo-alkylcarbonamide groups specified are derived from a - and b -bromo- and chloro-propionamides, a -, b - and g -bromo or chlorobutyramides. Among the many starting materials specified are azo dyes such as 1-aminobenzene - 4 - sulphonic acid --> 2 - (b -chloro - propionylamino) - 5 - hydroxynaphtholene - 7 - sulphonic acid and 1 - amino - 3 - (b - chloropropionylamino) - benzene --> 1 - (4-sulphophenyl) - 3 - methylpyrazolone, 1,4-diaminoanthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic acid, reaction products of 1-amino-4-bromanthraquinone - 2 - sulphonic - or 2 - carboxylic acid with aromatic amines such as 1,4-diaminobenzene, 1,3 - diaminobenzene - 4 - sulphonic acid, 4,41 - diamino - diphenylsulphide - 2,21-disulphonic acid, 4,41 - diaminostilbene - 2,21-disulphonic acid, 4,41-diaminodiphenylamine, or aliphatic diamines such as ethylene or propylene diamines, reaction products of leuco-1,4 - diamino - or - dihydroxyanthraquinones with aromatic diamines, e.g. 1,4-diaminobenzene - 2 - sulphonic acid. Examples of suitable pthalocyanine starting materials are mono-, di- or tetrachlorophthalocyanine, tetraphenylsulphonyl - copper phthalocyanine, tetramino - copper phthalocyanine di -, tri - and tetrasulphonic acids, reaction products of halomethyltetrazaporphins with amino phenols or aminophenolsulphonic acids and reaction products of aromatic or aliphatic primary or secondary diamines or their sulphonic acids with tetrazaporphinsulphonic acid halides. Acid binding agents may be employed in the reactions. The dyes are suitable for dyeing and printing materials of wool, silk, synthetic polyamides, polyurethanes, leather and natural or regenerated cellulose. In dyeing cellulose a process including treatment with basic substances and steam or hot air may be used. Examples are furnished.
