Abstract: The method used to polymerize a microsuspension enables continuous production of particular homopolymerizates and copolymerizates from at least one polymerizable monomer. The polymerization of the microsuspension, to which addition agents can be added depending on the desired application, is carried out in a tubular reactor at a temperature of at least 0 DEG C C in the presence of a hydrophobic radical polymerization initiator, resulting in particular homopolymerizates and copolymerizates of an average diameter d50 of at least 50 mu m. The polymerizates obtained by this method find applications as addition agents for thermoplastic moulding compounds, as copier toner components, as auxiliary agents for paper and leather, as coating agents for magnetic tapes and foils and as colour and paint components.

Abstract: For the production of moulding compounds with good weather resistance, improved impact resistance and good creep properties, an elastomeric acrylic ester copolymer is produced which contains comonomers polymerised with chemically reactive groups. This copolymer is dissolved or macerated in monomers like styrene and acrylonitrile forming hard grafts. After the addition of monomers and/or polymers with chemically reactive groups and the possible addition of a chemically reactive cross-linking agent, the resultant monomer-copolymer mixture is subjected to graft polymerisation up to a conversion of over 15 wt. % of the monomers as a thermally or radically initiated polymerisation in substance or solution. The moulding compounds may be used as delustering agents for polymer mixtures.

Also claimed are: (i) two other graft copolymers (P2 and P3), six blends and a thermoplastic moulding compsn. contg. the graft copolymers.; (ii) methods for their prodn.; and (iii) mouldings, films, fibres or coatings made from any of these.
