    Abstract: Porous epoxy resins are produced from a 40-95% stable aqueous dispersion of a polyepoxy compound containing (1) a basic hardening agent having at least two hydrogen atoms capable of reacting with epoxy groups and (2) hydrogen peroxide as the sole expanding agent. A protective colloid dispersing agent is usually included in the dispersion. The polyepoxy compounds and dispersing agents used may be those specified in the parent Specification. Hardening agents specified are ethylene diamine, propylene diamine, butylene diamine-1,4, hexamethylene diamine-1,6, diisobutyl-hexamethylene diamine, decamethylene diamine-1,10, nonadecane diamine, 1,3-diaminopropanol-2, dipropylene triamine, diethylene triamine, triethylene tetramine, tetraethylene pentamine, mono- or di-aminocyclohexane, p-phenylene diamine, 4, 4,41-diamino-3,31-dimethyldicyclohexylmethane, 4,41-diamino-3,31-dimethyldiphenylmethane, 4,41-diaminophenylmethane, 4, 4,41-diaminodiphenyl-dimethylmethane, N,N1-dimethyldiaminodiphenylmethane, N-cyclohexyl-propylene diamine and a polyamide from adipic acid and diethylene triamine with 8% of free amino groups. In the examples, the polyepoxides and dispersing agents specified are (1) a reaction product of epichlorohydrin, a copolymer of vinyl pyrrolidone and vinyl propionate, (2) the polyepoxide and dispersing agent as in (1) as well as diisobutyl naphthalene sulphonate, (3) an epoxy resin based on 4,41-dihydroxydiphenyldimethylmethane, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and (4) glycol diglycidyl ether, partly esterified polyvinyl alcohol; in this last example a synthetic fibre wadding is incorporated into the foamed article.ALSO:Porous epoxy resins are produced from 40-95% stable aqueous dispersions of polyepoxy compounds containing (1) a basic hardening agent having at least two hydrogen atoms capable of reacting with epoxy groups and (2) hydrogen peroxide as the sole expanding agent. In the examples, the polyepoxides and dispersing agents specified are (1) a reaction product of epichlorhydrin and pentacrythritol, a copolymer of vinyl pyrrolidone and vinyl proportionate (2) the polyepoxide and dispersing agent as in (1) as well as diisobutylnaphthalene sulphonate (3) an epoxy resin based on 4, 41 -dihydroxydiphenyldimethylmethane, polyvinyl pyrrolidone and (4) glycol diglycidyl ether, partly esterified polyvinyl alcohol; in this last example a synthetic fibre wadding is incorporated into the foamed article.

The process is particularly useful for coating metal components.
