Abstract: The present invention is directed to process for the manufacture of N- 3,4-Dimethylphenyl! -N,D-ribamine of the formula (V) (V) in which a salt of D-ribonic acid is catalytically hydrogenated in an organic solvent in the presence of 3,4-dimethyl-aniline, 3,4-dimethylnitrobenzene or a salt of 3,4-dimethyl-aniline and a strong acid. The amine thus obtained is used as an intermediate in the preparation of vitamin B2.
