    Abstract: In the production of cyanuric acid by thermal decomposition of urea, a layer of urea between 0.5 mm. and 5.0 mm. is heated to between 250 DEG and 380 DEG C. and kept at this temperature for 5 to 30 minutes. The urea, in solid or liquid form, may be deposited as a layer on an endless conveyer belt and heated thereon. In an example, molten urea was passed down a shoot heated to a temperature above the melting-point of urea on to a metal conveyer belt heated to 300 DEG C. to form a layer 2 mm. thick. After eleven minutes, flakes of cyanuric acid were collected.

    Abstract: A process for the manufacture of thermoplastic fibrids by shredding a solution of a polymeric thermoplastic in a field of shearing forces, said shredding being performed by passing a homogeneous solution of the thermoplastic in an organic solvent, which is a solvent for said thermoplastic only at elevated temperature, through a nozzle having one or more orifices in the form of an annular die into a zone having the form of an impulse exchange chamber which has a mean inlet diameter of from 2 to 20 times that of the circular area equal to the total cross-sectional area of the nozzle orifices through which the homogeneous solution is extruded and a length of from 2 to 30 times its hydraulic diameter, in which chamber the homogeneous solution is cooled such that the thermoplastics material precipitates and in which a turbulent field of shear forces exists, this being produced by the introduction of one or more jets of a gaseous or liquid medium, which jets are located centrally to the annular orifice, into said impulse exchange chamber at a velocity of from 5 to 500 m/s.

    Abstract: Foamed synthetic resins are produced from solutions of curable synthetic resins by mixing a foam of a solution of a foaming agent which has been foamed up with a compressed gas with a solution of a synthetic resin and curing the resultant synthetic resin foam, wherein the foam is produced in a tubular vessel into the inlet end of which a solution of a foaming agent is introduced axially and a compressed gas is introduced tangentially and the introduction of a solution of the synthetic resin into the foam produced is carried out near to the end of a tube which is attached to the tapering outlet end of the tubular vessel. Specified resins are ureaformaldehyde and melamine-formaldehyde condensates, and suitable foaming agents are alcohol sulphonates. A hardener may be added to the foaming agent solution, e.g. an organic or an inorganic acid.
