Abstract: A process for producing catalysts that contain pacified copper and zinc oxide and/or aluminum oxide, comprises: (i) Precipitating a mixture of catalyst precursors which are dissolved in a solvent or in a sludge, using precipitating agents that contain anions. (ii) The mixture is washed and dried to form a solid catalyst precursor in powder or granulate form. (iii) The precursors are calcined until the anion content is 0.1-2.5wt%. (iv) The calcined precursors are then shaped and reduced and pacified, to form the catalyst. (v) Precipitation tales place by the addition of carbonates, and in the precipitation of zinc and aluminum salts the Zn:Al ration is 3:1-1:3, and the alkali carbonate solution has a pH of 5-12 and a temperature of 20-100 degrees C. (vi) The precipitate is separated and washed to remove the alkali ions. (vii) After drying, calcining takes place at 250-800 degrees C.
