    Abstract: An apparatus for supplying a web of material is provided that automatically changes the roll of material from an exhausted roll to a new full roll of material. The apparatus includes a plurality of spindles for supporting a plurality of rolls of material, the spindles being coupled to a rotatable carousel, a locking member for selectively preventing the rotation of the carousel is provided as well as a mechanism for selectively rotating the carousel. The apparatus also includes a member for splicing an end of a first roll of material to an end of a second roll of material.

A distribution duct that defines a channel extending from the reservoir is provided that is in fluid communication with a feeding duct that defines a channel. A valve seat is located between the distribution duct and the feeding duct. The channels defined by the distribution and feeding duct extend in the same plane at the valve seat. The valve seat is located at an acute angle with respect to that plane. A closing device, for regulating fluid flow from the distribution duct to the feeding duct is provided. The closing device includes a movable valve, movable in a direction that is at an acute angle to the flow if the fluid from the distribution duct to the feeding duct, for mating with the valve seat. A member is coupled to the valve for urging the valve toward the valve seat. Members are provided for adjusting the member for causing the closing device to move.

The apparatus includes a dancer (20) having a roller (26) located between two tracks (51, 53) that allow the roller (26) to move vertically along the tracks (51, 53). The web of film (12) is fed around the roller (26) and vertically upwards toward the former (16). A quarter turn member (18) is further provided for changing the flow path of the film (12) from a substantially horizontal flow path to a substantially vertical flow path. And a member for moving horizontally, as a unit, the dancer (20) and quarter turn member (18) while maintaining a fixed spacial orientation of the dancer (20) and the quarter turn member (18) is provided. A method of feeding a web of film (12) to a former (16) is also provided.
