Abstract: A system and method for assisting in verifying that the right medication is efficiently provided to the right patient, in the right dose, at the right time, and via the right route is employed for administering an infusion order (702) including a first administration, a medication, and a flow rate. The system includes first, second, and third computers. The first computer receives data identifying the order (702), the second computer provides instructions for preparing the first administration and provides a first schedule for preparation of additional administrations if additional administrations are included in the order, and the third computer provides instructions for the first administration and provides an initiation signal to the infusion machine indicating the initiation of the first administration to the patient. The third computer also provides a flow rate modification signal. The modification signal causes the system to determine whether to generate a second schedule which the second computer provides if required.

Abstract: Sistema para la administración de medicación, en el que la medicación está en un envase que contiene un código de barras asociado a la misma, sistema que comprende: un primer ordenador, conectado a la bomba de infusión y que tiene una memoria configurada para almacenar los datos que definen una primera velocidad de flujo y los datos que definen una primera tolerancia de la velocidad de flujo; una hora referida al meridiano 90º oeste de Greenwich, una bomba de infusión, configurada para funcionar con una primera y una segunda velocidad de flujo; un segundo ordenador, conectado al primer ordenador, configurado para aceptar la información de un lector de código de barras, facilitar una primera señal al primer ordenador, primera señal que incluye los datos que identifican la medicación, facilitar una segunda señal al primer ordenador, segunda señal que incluye los datos que identifican una segunda velocidad de flujo, y facilitar una tercera señal al primer ordenador, tercera señal que incluye los datos que identifican el volumen de medicación contenido en el envase de medicación, en el que el primer ordenador comunica la segunda velocidad de flujo a la bomba de infusión, si la segunda velocidad de flujo está dentro de la tolerancia de la primera velocidad de flujo, y en el que el primer ordenador documenta el inicio de la segunda velocidad de flujo utilizando una hora referida al meridiano 90º oeste de Greenwich.

Abstract: A system and method for comparing medical device settings with medication orders within a healthcare system. A medical device such as an infusion pump sends data relating to its operational parameters over a communications interface to a first computer which holds data relating to a medication order. The data is compared and the result sent via the communications interface to a remote computer such as a hand-held computer carried by a health professional. A second computer may send the medication order data, and optionally patient information data, to the first computer. The operational parameters of the medical device may be manually input to the device, or transmitted by the first or second computers.
